House passes health care bill on close vote By DAVID ESPO, AP Special Correspondent 55 mins ago WASHINGTON In a victory for President Barack Obama, the Democratic-controlled House narrowly passed landmark health care legislation Saturday night to expand coverage to tens of millions who lack it and place tough new restrictions on the insurance industry. Republican opposition was nearly ...
Actually, in looking over the bill...It looks pretty good. At first glance the 5.4% tax on people making 500k & 1 million respectively was a bit much, then I thought about it. A single person making 500k per year can afford 27k in taxes; the couple making 1 million can also afford the 54k in added taxes. Why? Because generally speaking, when individuals are making that much money, there are ...
"To pay for the expansion of coverage, the bill cuts Medicare's projected spending by more than $400 billion over a decade.'
So they ARE going to kill grandma! So does it specify how that is to be done? Pelosi did say it would not add one dime to the deficit or she would personally come up with the shortfall......Didn't she?
< A single person making 500k per year can afford 27k in taxes; the couple making 1 million can also afford the 54k in added taxes.>
Wow! I'm glad that you can decide what these people can afford. Do you know their finances, budget? Just because someone makes a large amount of money, doesnt nessarially mean they can afford something
{{{Shrug}}} Dunno, this is the first phase. A bill has to make it through the Senate and then both bills will go back to committee to come up with one that will make it through both the house and the senate. I'm guessing that the specifics you are asking for are either in the bill but have not been reported or, have not been fully agreed upon.
An additional item from NewsWeek about the "republican alternative" listed near the bottom of your article where they are discussing the difference between the 2010 midterms and those in '94 following the Clinton health care reform effort.
Also diminishing health care's electoral potency will be the shellacking the Republican alternative plan received from the Congressional Budget ...
>>> A single person making 500k per year can afford 27k in taxes; the couple making 1 million can also afford the 54k in added taxes. Why? Because generally speaking, when individuals are making that much money, there are usually other incentives attached to their pay check...Like stock options and monetary bonuses. How very socialist of you to decide how much of another person's income ...
Liberal bobbleheads don't have specifics...or pretty much any information at all...they just nod anytime their Obamessiah and the Dem clown circus say something...that's why they're bobbleheads.
<<<"Libs really don't understand the concept of "insurance," do they?">>> Do tell! What is the concept of insurance? I was always led to believe that if you pay your premiums when you filed a claim said claim would be paid. I don't expect to be denied over and over again; I don't expect my doctor to be over ruled regarding the FDA approved treatments he prescribes. But please, tell me, what ...
>>> I don't have time to deal with this in detail, but for now let me just tell you that assuming your own experience is typical or average is a fallacy. Um…as opposed to someone like you telling me that I WILL use it, and it will probably be this year, and several times. LOL! >>> Let me add, though, congratulations on remaining healthy for so long! That is very lucky! No, not lucky....
Gouverneur has done a spectacular job responding to your posts which have saved me a whole lot of time.? So I haven't got much to say.? Except: THOUSANDS per year???? My goodness.? I see my OB every year and that is it.? Certainly it doesn't cost thousands.? My primary care physician only see's me every 4 years.? AND I have asthma.? My toddler doesn't even cost that much, and his well visits are far more often than ours.?...
It is sad to be tied to something that is not what you really want to do because of insurance.? Maybe people would be more productive and happier if they could change careers without fear of losing their insurance.
<<<"Anyone can get it. Just give the insurance company a ring, pay them the fee and you're covered. Easy as that.">>> Uh, no, not as easy as that . <<<"A recent national survey found that 12.6 million non-elderly adults -- 36 percent of those who tried to buy insurance on the private market -- were discriminated against in the past three years because an insurance company deemed them ineligible...
'?No one really needs a house that costs 1.5 million." ? ? ? ? Maybe not, but remember, who builds that house? Or builds that boat? Or I guess you're right, we don't need those jobs either.
We have a lot of Doctors who reside in Canada and practice medicine in and around Detroit. Most of the major hospitals in Detroit are only a 10 to 20 minute commute from Windsor, Ontario. ?
<<My argument here is that "insurance" is the wrong business model when it comes to health care. You buy insurance just in case something goes wrong - flood, fire, auto/accident, etc. You don't buy health insurance "just in case," you buy it because you KNOW you will need it. >> Excellent point, well put. ?
I shouldn't be posting here, since I have deadlines approaching, but it is bothering me that I haven't been clear in my posts, so I do just want to post this clarification. First, it has become apparent to me that I am engaging in the same fallacy that both of you are. I am assuming that the experiences of my friends, colleagues, etc. in requiring regular, expensive health care is the norm. This contrasts with the circles of people...
~what right does the government have to punish them by taxing them more....~ ~This government make me sick to my stomach~ It's not new, or singular to the current government. My understanding is that you've had progressive taxes (ie. percentage paid goes up as income goes up) for quite a long time. This isn't the best source, but some of the ideas behind it are explained: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressive_taxes .
What is wrong with them building houses they can actually afford...I am all for that.? All I said was....? '?No one really needs a house that costs 1.5 million." Nowhere in that sentence does it say, don't build anything.?Just love the way some of you think.? All or nothing:(? ?
