Hostgator also requests scanned copy of a Photo ID such as a passport or drivers license. Additionally, request a copy of a credit card ... What if I paid with PayPal? Is all this so necessary? I am also with HostGator and i am very happy with the service. You have to simply scan these docs and send via email. Add your name, order ID ....

Yes, I agree. I am also with Hostgator and Recommend them all the time. I have been with them for Years and can never think of a time my website was down. Hostgatoris great host, all my sites hosted there, they are very helpful you just email them.

This is just for fraud protection. Fraud orders are massive in hosting - HostGator probably get hundreds per day. Hence why they are requesting these details. It is annoying though, I can understand your concerns.
