Started 4 months ago by aintitcool.com

Prince Caspian was mostly hogwash.

It is really episodic but that is what I love about it and also it seems a LOT less heavy handed at times with the whole Aslan = Scary Jesus Lion deal. I hope this isn't a snore fest like the last one...I can barely even remember anything about the film adaptation of Prince Caspian. God, it was dull.

i tried to watch it twice but could only get half way through.

...the dragon scene with Eustace had a profound effect on me as a kid...and the whole business with Reepicheep rowing off the edge of the world...beautiful and classic scenes...

Thanks for that info. I'd love if they got closer to the brilliant claustrauphobic atmosphere of Pauline Baynes' original illustrations. That would involve a darker, more retrained palette and MINIMAL CGI. The first two movies had a bright plasticky "Disney" feel to them that was disappointing. I hope Apted realises that a battle scene is best kept short and sharp - after a few minutes it gets ...

...of these adaptations. The movies are mostly not great, but I occasionally get pulled in despite myself...I suspect it's the music. Well, the music and my childhood longing to live in NARNIA...

but that looks pretty badass. I'd love to take a Carnival Cruise on that.

Then I could give a shit about these fucking movies. I haven't even seen the first two and it's because there was never any fucking rush to make these until LOTR came out and then every studio was falling over themselves to greenlight every fucking multi-part fantasy series out there whether or not the books were any fucking good.

I enjoy both Narnia and His Dark Materials. Whoo-Hoo for not caring about the sub-text and just enjoying a fun fantasy!!!

Maybe the next movie is a convert to norse religion kiddie movie. At least the norse gods did kicked ass, instead of the Jesus fella who could only get his ass kicked, according to the Mel Gibson movie of course.

...one shouldn't discuss the subtext or philisophical aspects or lack thereof in a film. I for one, thought the subtext to the Narnia films was so white-washed and insecurely dealt with that the films had no impact. The whole point of the book Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe is found in the chapter where Peter and Susan go to talk to Professor Kirk about Lucy and he shocks them by saying, "How do you know she isn't telling the...

was 'kiddy fantasy'. Have you read the books? The film was shit though and a complete fuck up of the first book. Thing is, it was doomed from the start as the story is very anti-religon, and not very subtley. I can't think of a studio with the right budget that would have touched it in its true form.
