I have experienced the same issues. I actually have a little test that all applicants have to take, in my presence. No calculator's, no dictionaries, etc. It's just a little 1 page test with very simple grammar school math, a question asking what word(s) are spelled incorrectly, alphabetize about 8 names, ...

Yeah, that's what its like getting recruits from the local Robert Reich "one-stop" job center. The fact is that capable and reliable applicants can find a job on their own. The ones who can't use the one-stop. (note: there are exceptions, but Wildkitten's experience is pretty typical).

I raised 2 fine young men who work circles around all of those guys. They are 15 and 18 years old. I instilled the work ethic into them. Most parents don't now and I appreciate it. It makes it just that much easier for me and my 2 sons to take jobs from them so they can starve.
