Thread: High Capacity Trailer Towing Specs

Ok guys, I've got a tech question for you... When a 2005-2007 F-550 with an automatic transmission is equipped with the High Capacity Trailer Towing Package, what mechanical changes set the package apart from an F-550 without this option? I know the GCWR jumps from 26,000 lbs. to 33,000 lbs. and the axle ratio is a 4.88:1 limited slip ratio, but what else is there? Springs, shocks, tranny ...

Not much info available. The order guide for a 2005 and 2006 F-550 said only that diesel engine and 4.88 limited-slip axle was required, and that the pkg included an "upgraded" rear axle. The axle is a Dana/Spicer 110, but somehow the one with the high capacity towing pkg is different than the standard Dana S-110 limited slip 4.88 that is optional in the F-550 without the high capacity towing ...

Not real sure about that year, but my 03 F450 has a Dana 135 rear axle, 4.30 gears, square axle tubes, not normal for the F450, but it being a construction company truck I figure they upgraded to the heaviest package they could get and still be classified as a 450...
