Thread: High Boost BOVs

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by Deutsch Marque
What BOV are you guys running for high boost settings? eg. 1.7bar-2bar? Currently i am having issues with my BOVs. I have a HKS SSQV which is shyt and now my Greedy Type RS is giving me issues as well.. One time the RS had its valve stuck open and HKS had always have problem with stalling. I dont have much confidence in these 2 brands now and im worried it ...

+1 to TiAL. We always use "Q" one for 500+ turbos in range of GT35R to GT42RS. Zero issues with 11-12psi springs.

I am getting rid of my type R. BOV seems to not be as needed with the Holset HX55.

This cheap ebay one, but only tested to 25psi on a holset hx35 Clean quick discharge.

Why though? I know it's a ricer jap trend, but why have it surge?

Adding on to this I have a question as well. I swapped out my Greddy RS, for the TiAL Q with -11psi (- 20 and -21 in/Hg). I'm still getting surge on partial load when driving around town. Would it benefit me to go to the -10psi spring? Would that help the BOV open easier on partial load? At idle I see -19.5 to -20.5 in/Hg.

I have the same question about the tial Q, It has the 11psi spring, Im having about 20,22 vac.

You know, that is an interesting comment Oleg. I had the vacuum lines come off my BPV, and with it not opening at all, I had no surge - with my surge ported SC61. With my old non-ported housing, it surged hard if the BOV was even slow in opening (Tial).

Def -I've always doubted the BPV helping with boost. If its dumping in front of the compressor wheel I would really hope your intake plumbing is larger enough that the air being dumped doesn't spin up the turbo at all. Right?

Why dont you guys think of two instead of one big valve? I ran dual billet bypass valves, and I know of a few highish HP P-cars that run the same, and dump very well. One by the TB and the other by the turbo. Another plus to BPV vs the Tial design is that you dont need to fight the spring/vac/boost dilemma. The Tial design you have boost acting on the valve, where as the bosch style bypass valve, the boost acts upon the housing of the unit,...
