Just wondering how many of you are out there. I just picked up a 1982 XL500R and was hoping to get in touch with other Honda XL riders. Stories, pics, tips, tricks, etc...

had an '80 500s- fun bike. the '82 was kind of a funky one- had the "old" style engine in the "new" style frame. any pics?

I thought the 82 was the first year for RVFC? I had one (XL500R) back in the day, but I was just a kid, and can't remember that detail, nor can I find a picture of my old bike. Great bike, though. I really liked it.

83 was the first year for RFVC (really fast very cool) but the 82 and older are still very strong motors.

I was wondering what types of tires you guys are using on the 500. Sizes are 3.00-21 and 4.6-17. I have cheng shins on the bike now and I was lloking for something more dirt oriented.

How about Honda's street-only version of an XL500 - aka an FT500 Ascot. Motor based on pre-RFVC 500, but with fritzy electric starter and tachometer drive grafted on. Still, a ton of fun to ride!
