I loved CV's rant, even if I disagreed with it. First off, I don't recall BS making any sort of claim to be a common everyman. His schtick was always (or used to be) that he wasn't an insider. He wrote based on his opinions and observations, unsullied by the needs of a beat reporter trying to make friends with players and management. And he's funny.
Secondly, who fucking cares if he ...
This drew several chuckles from me yesterday. Nice to hear from you, CV. _________________ "Sargeras, Transcendental Warriors guild, night elf rogue, alliance. This is my first toon, although I've started a dranaei paladin as a second, and I might start a priest very soon."

This looks like the totally appropriate place to post these upcoming Simmons appearances other than his book signings:
⢠Tuesday, Oct. 27: "Around the Horn" and "PTI"
⢠Thursday, Oct. 29: "Morning Joe" (6-9 a.m. on MSNBC) and "The Colbert Report" (11:30 p.m. on Comedy Central)
⢠Friday, Oct. 30: Bill will join the announcing team during ESPN's broadcast of the Bulls-...
This thread really turned into a rusty steak knife cutting through a well-aged steak.
Good stuff all around.
(BTW, I'm buying his next book and I'm pissed he won't be coming to Tucson to sign it. Boooo. ) _________________ It feels like I crushed and snorted both the blue and red pills. I have not a clue what the fuck is going on in life.
Should we advise Bill to get some extra security for his Boston book signing appearances? _________________ Waiting for sometime soon when Joey Logano wins The Chase for the Sprint Cup.
I think Bill Simmons does portray himself as an "everyman" or certainly an "every sports man", but I don't think he means it socio-economically.
He certainly seems to think he's an expert on all things sports, a point on which he is sadly mistaken and which leads to 80 percent of his doucheyness. (His Boston fandom is 15 percent and his voice is 5 percent.) _________________ CMU's Dan ...
The only sports he ever talks about is baseball, pro football, and pro basketball.
How can you be "THE Sports Guy" and know next to nothing about hockey, golf, tennis, soccer, college football, college basketball, boxing, etc.
That's what always cracks me up. _________________ "You need to beat off the ghosts"-some radio guy I heard on WIP last night
come on, dave. the point is the guy is a sniveling pussy who pretends to be some sort of lunch pail hero. anyone catch the "I am super competitive and amazingly ambitious" interview answer last week? what a fucking fraud. _________________ I just know I looked damn good in my tight shirt today - Brontoburglar

wasn't Babe a pig or a giant blue ox? I think she fits Babe under those definitions _________________ âyou don't read me! You read WIKIPEDIA! AND THAT'S LEFTIST.â
Right, he's probably just talking about that one morning after the clocks change. Go to bed at 9 PM, sleep 10 hours (like most toddlers who sleep however long they're used to and can't read a clock yet), and it's supposed to be 7AM but it's now actually 6 AM. So...yeah, is that from the spring, or is he wrong, or am I confused? _________________

before bill simmons went to espn, he was one of the most entertaining sportswriters i've ever read. friends used to e-mail the columns to each other. the movie/pop-culture stuff was phenomenal. i loved it. after he went to espn, he was still great, imho. granted, he got a little worse after he really hit it big. but it wasn't until he moved to california that he totally lost it. his move roughly coincided with the reality show boom...

More likely not cool enough. Outside of US soccer games and MNF, I haven't watched ESPN in over a decade. I hope there is implied orange because I looked those people up, and I am confident I wouldn't know them even if I watched ESPN. _________________ "when i say the sky is falling, you better duck and cover." howard in nyc
