My 4 month old never sleeps for longer than 40 minutes during the day (often only 20), which means he ends up having 3-4 naps a day which I don't feel is optimal for him
Could you please tell me:
1) What time your LO starts their long nap and for how long they sleep?
(e.g. 1pm for 2hrs)
2) Do you do anything different to signal to them this is a longer nap?

I can't be too much help here, we're having the same issue. Right now Darwin is going through MAJOR separation anxiety and the only way I can get him to nap at all is if I'm with him. He will take a short nap in his stroller if we're out, or resting on me in a chair. The only way I can keep him down for a long nap (over 40 minutes) is if I nap with him. Great thread! Sarah i have the same probs as you, and I feel if my lo takes 2 40 min naps 9as he has for the last few days) he is ubdercranky! He has never really had a long nap so i might try this soon along with controlled crying.

good thread! Can't help my LO only naps 3 times a day for 20-30 ish mins. Wis he would nap better as he is so tired by 5! Although just means he's in bed by 6pm and sleeps thru till 8/9 a,. Sorry not sleeps thru has two feeds during that time
Also (sorry for thread hijacking) but how do you know that ur lo has napped enough? I have had an 'off' day today with napping, I put him down at 11, he cried after 30mins and I managed to get him to sleep yil almost 12 so i thought cool an hour is great...boy was i wrong! he has been moody the entire day and didnt wnat to nap again ect etc.
