Thread: Help with net curtains and telescopic rods with UPVC windows? (merged threads)

Started 1 year, 8 months ago by Greycrow

I would like to know how to support telescopic net curtain rods on a UPVC window without drilling into the frame. Have tried plastic self adhesive hooks, also plastic hooks with 'no more nails' adhesive, but both of these come straight off when I hang the curtain onto them. The actual pole stays up fine, but bows in the middle and needs a bit of help, anybody got the answer!

Just plug and screw small hooks into the reveal instead of the window..that is what I have done before now...

Madeane is correct, but drilling in to the plastic frames is not difficult. Alternatively, use the spring loaded curtain rods that simply 'wedge' between the reveals.

Those telescopic rods are worse than useless they keep falling down. I ended up just screwing hooks in the upvc frames in the end

I've got the plastic hooks, and they seem to be ok, but you need one at least every 12 inches (30CM) across the window frame. The adhesive on the pads seem to dry out after about 18 months - 2 years, and the hooks need replacing then.

I'm wondering whether you need a longer curtain rod (Since you say it bows in the middle). They ARE adjustable of course but you might be better with next size up if you see what I mean. I have these on a couple of windows measuring 7.5 feet wide and they're fine. In another room I have a smaller window with a telescopic spring-loaded type and that's fine too - actually I think I prefer ...

Another vote for the telescopic spring-loaded curtain rods which we have for some of our nets. Very robust, unobtrusive, simple to fit/remove without damage to your window frames (careful you don't damage wallpaper/paint as you fit it into the recess though). We have some other nets with the rubbishy sticky supports which either fall off or the plastic just snaps. Andy

Even at my mature age I have never had net curtains so need some help with one window 48" x 48" and French doors 77" wide x 81" drop. Anywhere suggested to buy online? Do I need tension pole and will it sag inthe middle on the wider net. I want to stop eyes looking in but still want a decent view from the window but wonder if this is possible or is the drawback of nets you will spoil...

What are the window frames made of? Wood, UPVC, or something else?

My personal opinion would be to get vertical blinds fitted as you can see out when you want to and when you down want peeps looking in you can close them. I go to peoples houses and it annoys me if there is net curtains up as you cant see much through them! as i stated just my opinion

Find a local haberdashery and take in your window dimensions. They'll cut you off just what you need rather than having to pay for extra net that your only going to cut off and bin. Nets no longer have to look like something out of your granny's house anymore as you can get some quite nice patterns - which actually surprised me as i never used to like net curtains! I'd go for a tension rod to hold them up though. Don't...

If you have a Dunelm near you they do nets, well, curtains, not like, .. you know fishing nets. Or Chiltern Mills do them as well I think! and some of the mail order catalogues still do them I think.

Go for nets rather than blinds, you can take the whole lot down every few weeks and wash them, much easier to do than cleaning blinds.
