Thread: Help me ID this sci-fi film

Started 1 month ago by pam-317
I saw only the last 10 or 15 minutes of this film on the SciFi Channel about 3 years ago. I'll try to include as many details as I can recall: A couple of young people (I believe it was a guy and a girl) are searching for some sort of powerful metal orb. Some military types are also in search of the orb. The head "bad guy" has bleached white hair. I think all of these people are from other ...

It sounds a bit like the 2002 version of "The Time Machine", http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Time_Machine_(200 2_film)

No, that's not it. They didn't use metal rods to travel through time in that film, did they? (I haven't seen it, so I don't know.) From what I could gather about the plot from the little bit I saw of the film in question, the small metal orb was needed to save either Earth or another planet from disaster.

It also has overtones of (I'm ashamed to know this) : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masters_of_the_Univer se_(film) Though I don't recall any bleach blonde baddie or museum in a cave (which is what made me think of "The Time Machine"). There is also a spherical power source in "Supergirl".

Is the bad guy older or younger?

dark-10 replied 1 month ago
Are you sure it wasn't Sphere? I only ask because you brought up Jumper, which also had Samuel L. Jackson.

Doctor Mordrid http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104115/ or Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0325703/

Another long shot but could it be http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millennium_(1989_film ) That has a big white glowing sphere, time travel, guys with bleached hair in museum like underground spaces, the search for a power source (though it's for a gun from the future which is causing a paradox which could destroy the Earth). If you didn't see it all the way through it might be easy to get the...

It wasn't Lara Croft, and not Spere either. Samual L. Jackson was not in the film. The baddie was an older white dude. I keep flashing on Malcolm McDowell, but I'm not sure that was him. Could have been someone who looks similar. Again, the orb their fighting over is very small, about the size of a grapefruit, not smooth, looks mechanical if you know what I mean. The characters "leap" or "...

Hmmm...it could be that. I'll check it out and let you know...it's very possible that I'm just confused about the bad guy character. I thought he was a white-haired man, but it could have been Rutger Hauer as a good guy. And I could also be mistaken about the metal rods they used. Still not sure though. They all seemed to be in search of a small orb, not a crystal. I also noticed someone on...

It does seem to fit the description quite well, no time travel but that's the problem with not seeing the whole film. I hope you have found your answer (the search was fun, thanks to you I'm going to get hold of "Primer" which popped up while I was looking at descriptions of time travel films, it sounds interesting).
