Just noticed the other day that my rear windscreen isn't heating up when I turn it on. The wing mirrors get warm but nothing at the back. The fuse is fine and there's no obvious damage to the element on the glass. Any ideas, anyone?
It's going into the dealers this afternoon as it's still under warranty but it's always good to go in with a bit of info!
Thanks
Dont forget part of your rear window is you ariel for your radio, this looks like heating elemnts but obviously doesnt warm up. This has caught a few folk out in the past and caused a few red faces when taken back to the dealer. I know from experience the heater is not brilliant and it takes a few miles for my window to clear.
yeah I checked this out before I took it back, someone else mentioned it in another thread.
None of the window heats up, no matter how long I've driven (checked it after a 20 mile drive the other day, the wings mirrors were warm but the rear was cold).
Took it back to the dealer, they had a look, tested it, couldn't fix it. I've got to take it back in (at the end of the month.. is a ...
If it is a minute crack in one of the heater element lines, I wouldn't go for a new rear window with all the hassle.
Dealers and for that matter Halfords etc, have a tiny bottle of clear laquer, which contains metal particles which when applied carefully, is invisible and lasts for years.
Yes of course, what a silly b-gger I am.
I must have used the said tiny bottle about three times on previous cars over the years too.
Anyway, for those that may be interested in the future and don't wish to have the bother of going to the Dealers and have them messing about, it can be found on ebay, :- "The Scratch Doctor" site. £8.
Just back from the dealers, they've had a look and they've said there's a fault with the heated screen, where the elements in the rear windscreen connect to the rest of the system on the near-side edge of the rear windscreen... and they've said that my warranty won't cover it! They called the Honda "Happiness" warranty people who told them they won't cover faults with glass.
NOT impressed...
no, nothing at all. Actually, good point, radio reception is absolutely fine at all times, and the aerial is in the glass too, so it can't be a problem with the glass. more weight to my argument, when I finally get through to Honda's Customer Services! thanks!
Can't find a price for a rear window anywhere on the net, anyone got any idea of a rough cost to replace?
That's crazy! I recently bought a Civic simply so I have a piece of mind for a few years of motoring. I dread having to have to worry about arguing with Honda on what is and isn't covered.
Still waiting for resolution on this, the Honda extended warranty guys had rejected the claim outright claiming that the problem is a "manufacturing defect with the glass" which isn't covered. I got through to the actual guy who had rejected my claim, and had a moan about exactly your points, that the only reason I'd bought an approved used Honda from an authorised main delaer was the peace of mind, I could have...
