Have any of you changed your thinking about it? If I sound like I'm pushing it, I don't mean to. I've travelled a bit and lived in a country
that's had public health care for 50 years. Most of the industrialized world has it. It breaks my heart to think that this is something that is for profit
in your country. Education is provided by your government and that doesn't make them socialist, I think...
How many of your family are senior citizens and living on social security? How many of them are in nursing homes that just got severe cuts? I've got 1
living in my basement and 1 living up the street.
I'm a non believer and still getting piss'der by the day.
And I do realize that they 'say' if you have an existing healthplan you won't be affected, but I don't believe it.
But nursing homes in the state of Ohio have had their budget cut by 1.5 million. Oxygen isn't being paid for or wheel chair trips. My dad is offering to
volunteer driving the nursing home bus so it's not out of pocket.
I'm pushing for it. I pay $900 a month in health insurance. My parents pay $180 a month just for my dad's inhaler and another 200 for the rest of the
meds. Something needs to be done for people without prescription coverage.
IMO, it's a complicated situation, and how one feels about it probably depends on the insurance you have, or don't have. People who don't have
insurance, or have poor insurance, are for government run healthcare. People who have good coverage, at a cost they feel is affordable are probably skeptical.
I don't know one person who really believes the " if you like your current coverage you can keep ...
Excellent post, Trinket.
A single payer system does not necessarily need to be a government run system....just sayin'.
I agree that our government officials are often driven by money, as are most Americans. BUT, not all. I cannot fathom how anyone with any interaction with
health care now can say it's fine the way it is. I believe that as long as health care is allowed to be a business, ...

I'm not sure it's your responsibility, but don't we already do that for people who don't pay taxes with protective services and such? We pay a
little more so they can have access as well. A health society benefits all of us. My issue has been with how the costs will get passed on, like Trinket said.
PBS and some of the cable channels, local news etc. have done a lot of pieces on other countries' systems for many years. None of them are perfect. And
most of them don't have to handle the number of people that ours does, nor do they have the illegal immigrant issue.
I hear arguments about more and better healthcare breakthroughs, yet there are more in other countries than yours, more in my country than yours and you
have 10 times our population.
What are you basing that on? Our government has numerous agencies that conduct research, they give grants to public and private groups to do it, universities
do it, non-profits do it and private corporations as...
I saw a few epis of that. One the husband had some harebrained scheme going and she was doing everything for the house and kids. I felt bad for her. The other was when she went to visit her siblings alone. I was surprised she was the only little person in the family. Then again, aren't all of her kids except one "normal" size? And the little one is a twin? I feel bad for him too.

Also why do a lot of them come to the USA to be treated. I'd be willing to see what is going on in Germany, they seem to have a system that works and they are advanced and willing to take more chances with treatment.

trixiew wrote: I think we as a country need to just step back, let go of trying to bring our health care system up to snuff. We should take a deep breath, regroup. Maybe start over by tackling an easier issue first, like converting to the metric system. Maybe that would bring us more together. I feellike we are on the verge of another civil war. me too.
