Thread: Having trouble getting bolt out (removing seat zx6r)

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by mystifier
bike: 08 zx6r I'd like to remove the seat so I can get the battery out for the winter. But the two bolts holding the seat on (the ones you access after removing the two side panels) are not coming out! I'm afraid if I turn any harder It'll round off the inside of the bolts and it'll become even harder to pull out. Any tips?

allen keys? Philips? i'm not familiar with the exact bolt, but i am familiar with removing stubborn bolts. if its an allen, go to the imperial allen sizes and find a slightly bigger size, bang it in, you should be able to twist it out. if Philips a good bit makes a huge difference. make sure u're using a no.2 bit (most screws are no.2) and hammer it in for greater contact and make sure u're ...

what kinda tool are you using ? allen keys?

At first I tried using just a standard allen key, and that didn't help. Then I got a wireless drill I have and put in a allen key bit. That didn't help much either....

Run to the hardware store and buy a set of allen sockets. 3/8" drive. Spray a little wd40 on the bolt and let it sit for a few hours to soak in. They should be strong enough to put a bit of torque on them.

Put some downward pressure on the seat. Should probably help a bit. But normally those bolts shouldn't be difficult to remove, unless it's your first time doing it. I remember all my bolts were TIGHT the first time round. U just need a good ratchet and hex set and give 'er.

get one of these sets, it will pay for itself. You can get a lot of leverage with a ratchet, and push down a lot if you still need help, swing by

These bikes are assembled with "zip" guns in the factory and can make removing some of the bolts pretty tough . A set of metric " T " handle allen keys can be your best friend for your bike . Most of these bolts have very low torque #'s so it is safer when you tighten to use the " T " handle set so you don't have this issue again . The ratchet set is good as well essentially you...
