I found this on the alex ovetjkin blog: The notes from Canes Country (are we jealous?): Why might Washington be ripe for a fall? First of all, has any (non Cup winning team) in the history of the NHL had as much notoriety as these guys have had this offseason? Perhaps it's the media's fault, but it has been non-stop Caps news all summer long. It seems like they have gotten more ...
Nah, most people love Ovie and are indifferent to the Caps in my experience, but it's cute that now that we have a good team the Canes actually are interested in being our rivals.
Yes. I'd indoor sporting eventing hate Ovie and Green if they weren't playing for the Caps. I don't know that I'd hate the whole, but some of the individual parts would seem insufferable.

It's mainly because these guys on this team have more charisma than most any other team--more than Crosby, Malkin, Fleury and the rest of the Pens; as well as more than most of the other players in the league... I'm glad people are starting to hate us...it means that we're being noticed, and we're ALMOST that damn good ... (IMG: style_emoticons/default/cool.gif )
yes we have. 2 division titles, finishing 3rd and 2nd. the caps are successful in that aspect, and lower teams fans want to see us go down. additionally, ovechkin is looked at by some fans of other teams as c0cky and arrogant. we are homers for ovechkin, but be honest...if crosby did the "hot stick" act in D.C., and the caps lost the game, people here would be flipping out....

The best thing that could happen is that the SE Division is competitive this season. Joe Gibbs always used to say that one of the reasons the Redskins were able ...

The more teams that hate us, the better. It means we're doing something right. We don't just hate the Penguins because Crosby's a rude person, we hate them because they're good and always beat us.

QUOTE (sparkles920 @ Sep 10 2009, 03:56 PM) I find it kind of odd that someone in going to a website about Ovechkin and commenting that there has been too much attention on Ovechkin. I think the Ovechkin blog was commenting on a Hurricanes blog.
