Thread: Have suggestions for Night Markets & Zoo alternative?
Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by westpt
We are visiting Beijing with a tour group in December and are looking for help with things we can do on our own.
1) We do not want to go to the Beijing Zoo with the tour group. (We find zoos depressing.) Is there somewhere quick and easy we can walk to from there that would be interesting while the tour group is inside the zoo? Maybe a market for shopping/browsing, or ...
Not sure where the tour takes you but I can tell you that there is a subway next to the zoo, giving you plenty of options.
For evenings you can go to the food street next to Wangfujing.
I also recommend "Ghost street" ( http://www.chinaculture.org/gb/en_curiosity/2006-0 7/25/content_84043.htm) for dinner.
From your hotel you should go to a shopping area called "The Place...
Thanks. Sounds like a good start. Re: the zoo, I assume based on our itinerary that the group will only be there 1 hour or less. So hopping on the subway to go somewhere else is probably not what we'd like to do. Prefer to stay in area around the zoo. Any ideas for that part of town?
Maybe just walk around randomly.
Go to google maps. Search for "China, Beijing " . In Beijing then search for "zoo". You will see what is around there within walking distance.
Very close to the zoo is the often overlooked Five-Pagoda Temple (or WuTaSi). It is a Buddhist temple and has a strong Indian architectural influence. It's situated just north of the zoo, across the river, so you could walk through the zoo to get to it.
The metro is quite safe. Take line 5 to Beixinqiao if you decide to go to Ghost Street. You can also get trolley bus 107 ...
Oppsite the zoo is the Whole sale market sell all the cloth, you can go there for short time, but there mainly for Chinese fashion and size:)
I think Beijing is pretty safe, subway to Wangfujing street, there have a church as well, thats probablly a good place to walk people, near your hotel have the ruins of city wall, another side during evening have locals walk around...
Hi, as a local Beijinger, I'd like to recommend Tianyi Commodity Mall, which is only 1 mile from Beijing Zoo. It is a department store selling the most amazing things for daily life.
This market is the favorite of Beijing young people. Here you can find a great plenty of trendy artifact, like souvenirs, ornamental artifacts, handicrafts, headgears, wallets, watches and ...
Plus, don't worry about your safety in Beijing , i mean at anytime anywhere in the city.
The subway service lasts to 11pm, towards the night, there will be even more passengers than in the daytime, you know the country is featured by large population, lol~
