Thread: Has anyone had three epidurals in a three week span?

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by lisafran
Hi All, I have a quick quesiton in regards to the epidurals. It seems that most people have one epidural shot and then two weeks later have another, then two weeks later a third. My Dr. is doing three in three weeks. Do you think that is ok? What have your experiences been like? Thanks for your help!!!

Huh? Is this your first one? I just had one 2.5 weeks ago and the SOONEST my Dr. would sch. another was the end of December. I have had many of them in the past 5 years and never in that short of a time span. My recovery from this last one was 4 days of post-procedure pain and it can take up to a week for the meds to even take effect. Ask him if he's certain on that time frame.

I have lost count on how many I have had, but this last one, really messed me up. I began to have them for my lumbar area and all of the issues I have there. I get relief from maybe 1 out of 5 and the length of relief varies from 2weeks to a few months. The post proced. pain from this procedure was a 4 day trip so I can't see how they are cramming them together for you?! This time while I...

Usually they will only do three injections in a YEAR. Then you have to wait a year before they will do the series again. I would question having them that close together. It takes time for the medicine to take effect. I had a caudaul injection and it took almost a month before everything settled down and I felt like it was working well.

I had four epidurals last year. The first was ~ March, then I had the other three in about a 6 week span starting around August. I was told that the doctors do not typically want to do more than 3 - 4 in total in an entire year, primarily because it softens the bones, discs, etc. For me, I got no relief at all. The last one they tried was called a coidal injection, which entailed them ...

3 in 3 weeks? That's ridiculous but I don't hold a medical degree. It can take a few days for an epidural to begin to work! Why the 2nd injection just 7 days after the first? Maybe it's a new procedure where they use less steroid per injection and instead stagger one/two injection's worth of steroids over 3 weeks instead of 3 FULL steroids' worth in injections over 3 weeks?
