Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by seepling2
Well, it is Halloween night on Saturday. All of my 3 kids going trick or treating at night time. At the day time we traditionally making scary dinner with my 15 year old and 5 year old. I desperately need ideas for something healthy. My kids pretty much follow south beach without even realizing it (with unlimited fruits so). So I came up with: 1. I noticed in walmart they now carry reduced sugar ketchup...I find it really hard to get my eggs down in the morning without a smidge of ketchup on them! Old habits die hard! Anyway, i was wondering if this is acceptable for SB? Also--canned tomato/spaghetti sauces..yay or nay? I havent lost as much on p1 this time as i did last time i did this diet...getting a little discouraged!

I haven't seen the reduced sugar ketchup on the shelves yet. But Ragu has a No Sugar added spaghetti sauce that I use sparingly that I think tastes great. Have you considered using salsa on your eggs? Depending on what you buy, you can find one that is chunky with tomatoes, chiles, and onions which can add a lot of flavor.

Also "Cento" brand makes a pasta sauce that has no sugar in the ingredients. I use a bit of the Heinz reduced sugar ketchup with no adverse affects. Makes eggs soooooo much better!

thank you i really appreciate the reply. i am currently reading over all this information. i really like this forum!! Portion control is something i need to deal with. it happens to be the main reason i am over weight. I read that you would lose a large amount of weight in phase 1 and that it wouldn't be healthy to lose the weight that fast... so far i haven't noticed such a fast weight ...

Thanks Robin, these are excellent idea, especially the sf marmalade and jams, they may have those in the diabetic section of my grocery store, I could look for her, dad does all the shopping for them and he usually just takes the label or jar to the service desk at the store and they go find it for him. He is a sweetie...but not a "hunter" just a "gatherer". Your homemade cranberry sauce is also a great...

Hi PJ....I've lost most of my weight on Atkins and switched to South Beach. In all honesty --- I prefer South Beach to Atkins for the variety....Sometimes you just have to change things up too. Good luck!

Hello Skippie! Last year when I was in full on diet mode I just made sure to keep SB snacks on hand, nuts, SF Jello, an apple with PB. Also, since you know your friends will be bringing the un-SB-friendly dishes maybe make it your plan to only cook SB-friendly dishes so there isn't that temptation while cooking, like Green Bean Almondine! (replace the butter in the recipe below with Olive oil and maybe throw in some crushed tomatoes and...
