Thread: Haggling in the Old City

I'd be interested in your experiences of haggling for souvenir items with Arab traders in Jerusalem Old City. According to my memories of 30 years back, offered starting prices varied by up to 500% from trader to trader for the same item. I'd appreciate some more recent info. No doubt things have changed since King David and I used to hang out...

Dont forget to visit a place called "Harbiye" at Antakya. It is a resort at the mountain with waterfall and good food. From Antakya you will drive towards the sun all day long to Antalya. On the way u will pass Adana Mersin, Tarsus...

Hi There, I'm travelling to Israel on Business in a couple of weeks and will be working in Rosh Haayin. The last time I was in Israel I stayed in Herzliya in the Sharon Hotel as this area seemed the most convenient for Rosh Haayin. However, the Sharon Hotel wasn't very good and I do not want to stay there again and I'd like to stay closer to Tel Aviv so could someone please tell me approx ...

rdglady replied 3 months, 1 week ago
The hotel is right off of the Ayalon ( route 20) and Rosh Haayin is off of route 5. It should take only 10 minutes or so longer than when you stayed in Herzilyia

Islamic New Year - Alcohol Sales
Published (2009-12-11 12:34:00)
I haven't heard the rumour about a ban on hotel bars selling alcohol. Even if it's true I can't imagine that Duty Free would not be selling it.

Many moshavim on the periphery of Jerusalem have cheap[er] flats for rent. Staying in the city may prove too expensive.

Travel during No Ruz
Published (2009-12-10 17:00:00)
No Ruz is a huge holiday in Iran that lasts for 13 days. Everyone who possibly can goes to visit family and the LP is absolutely right when they advise that it's best to stay away. My husband has been traveling to Iran for many years now on busines and always avoids No Ruz as everything is so heravily booked and loads of places are shut.

I believe the place to which you refer is located within the Abu Dhabi Intercontinental Hotel? You could either write to The Manager c/o The Hotel, Bainouna Street, Abu Dhabi 4171. Or else go to the Intercontential Abu Dhabi website and click on customer care - there is a form to fill in.

Published (2009-12-12 02:23:00)
I booked a trip 3 months ago with Emirates, with a similar stopover. NO- They do not give complimentary hotel stop-overs. There are good rest facilities at Dubai Airport, and if you want to have a hotel stay, you would have to pay.

UnaS, you have been very helpful in the past weeks with all the questions that I have asked! I greatly appreciate it. Have you heard of Sandemans? The do free walking tours in several cities in Europe and in Jerusalem. The offer other tours, at cost, as well. According to their website, looks like their meeting point is at the Jaffa Gate near the Tourist info station. They also have an independent travelers center at 1 Ben Shatach St, phone...

I am thinking I would like to stay in the Solidere area of Beirut but when I google for Hotels I am not sure if that area is referred to as the "city center" or simply the "city" or if that is neither? I donʻt see listings for Solidere. What are some value priced hotels preferably under $100 US per night double with bath. Mahalo (thanks) traveling with aloha the coconut wireless
