I have a 550 and am an allergy sufferer. The filter on the roomba does very little to remove dust from the exhaust air out the back of the unit so my allergies act up after using the roomba. I read some other posts about this issue here on the site but couldn't find a solution until today. Before anybody asks, I am not affiliated in any way with the following. Has anybody tried these: http...
Jim Lynch is the inventor of the Looj, the first gutter cleaning robot, while Barry Stout once contributed to the development of the Roomba and related sensors. Together, they founded Friday Innovations, a company dedicated to keeping every single day innovation day. I agree, knowing it is not a fly by night company - makes me feel better in some manner - so thank you very much for that info! I just ordered the Ultra-Soft bumper add-on (most of my furniture has black near the bottom) for my 1.5 year old 535. The website indicates you receive a free Hepa type filter sample with each order until 10/30 - so I hope it is an actual filter and not just a piece of ...
Just an FYI...I wouldn't run ANY roomba over a pile of flour or talcum powder! I don't know if flour is as fine as talcum, but I do know talcum powder will do a real number on your wheel sensors. They are difficult to access and you may have to clean them 2 or 3 times to get rid of the problem. Remaining powder continues to fly around and restart the wheel sensor issue.
Bumble, Just as a heads up, did you get your 550 at Costco or somewhere else? I heard the Costco 550 is actually the 551, with a different style filter (curved, with Aero Vac bin), so something you want to double check, as the Robot Add On site mentions SKU 551 and 536 as incompatible.
I'd be interested to find out if this new filter is as easy to clean and reuse as the stock filter. I use an air compressor to clean my filter every day, and wash it with soap and water once a month. The filter lasts 6-8 months. I wonder if a paper frame would fit and hold up as well and be able to survive a soap and water washing. And why so much frame material? Seems like it would block ...
I have the 550 ( 551 Costco) with the aero bin. The filter is sturdy and easy to clean. Once in awhile I use a air compressor to clean the filter with no problems. I just got it not too long ago so I haven't tried washing it yet. Mike
There was a special at one time where they sent out a filter for the cost of shipping (about $6.00). I bought one at that time, and installed it in my 560. I've been running it daily for about 3 months now. It works fine, it seems to collect about the same amount of dust, and cleans easier than the regular filters (there is a rough prefilter that catches the larger particals, and lets them fall ...
I received my soft bumper add-on and hepa type filter today, from robotaddons.com The soft bumper is awesome, no more loud bangs / thwacks into my furniture, subwoofer, etc. No more banging into the bedroom doors. I don't even know it is by the doors anymore, as before you would hear it wack into the door, followed by the thwa-ng-ng of the door stopper. Adhesive is very very sticky. Roomba ...
Thanks to all who replied, your experience with these HEPA roomba filters is invaluable. Zupernoc, it sounds like your allergies are worse than mine, I don't take anything unless headaches need medication except in the height of spring pollen/mold season here in TX. I'll definitely be checking out these filters from robotaddons.

Thank you, but I am no expert - just an avg joe consumer, that wanted to share my observations on the aftermarket hepa type filter, and the aero bin. Do you think with some careful use of foam tape you could make a better seal on the foam edge of the Aero filter, as you said in your review, it looks like some dust still gets through? It is my opinion that the foam seals work just fine (it is a very tight fit), and it is the filter material...
Back on topic a bit... I have been using the Hepa type for a week now, lots of crud caught by the foam prefilter, seems to work just fine, and since it is the same price as the iRobot filters, I will just use these. I am not sneezing as much when I shake out the bin as when I first started using the robot 3 weeks ago, but who knows... But for same price, will stick with these ones... Happy Turkey Day.

Hi All, The HEPA filter for Roomba was one of our biggest Robot Add-On's challenges for sure. After composing the spec, we interviewed ten filter companies before finding one that could make the filter per our specifications. Having put so many years into the Roomba development ourselves, we were not about to do anything to reduce it's performance. With hundreds of man hours testing different configurations, filter material and types...
