Thread: H2SO4 AT LOW CONCENTRATION

Started 1 month, 1 week ago by ROMEUM2
Hello, I have a commodity with a concentration of 0,5% of H2S04 and a temperature of 200ºC, and, I don't know if this concentration is very acid. Someone can help me?? Thanks,

You would consider this a weak acid, but under certain conditions it could be very corrosive especially at your temperature. One needs a little more information to give any advice. Is the 0.5% based on vol or weight? What form is the commodity? What are the other ingredients? What do you hope to accomplish?

Sorry, 0,5% vol; liquid; water. I have to specify the material of piping. Thanks,

( Is there any chloride in the system? Even a few ppm could be a killer. Look here for good tips http:// www.outoku mpu.com/ap plications /documents /start.asp I would suggest that you look at duplex stainless grades, but you are going to need a high alloy material for any real durability at that temperature. , )

( you can calculate the pH with some chemistry calculation; here you can find some help to select the correct material http:/ /www.corro sionist.co m/corrosio n_protecti on_sulfuri c_acid.htm S , )

There is an alloy called alloy 31, which is a austenitic stainless steel. It has very good resistance angainst H2SO4. Please find a iso corrosion diagram on page 5 in the attached material data sheet. http://thyssenkruppvdm.de/_pdf/Nicrofer3127hMo_e.p df
