In reality, the dynasty ended with Vladimir's death since he was the last surviving dynast and de-jure Tsar who unquestionably was born of an equal marriage under the Pauline Laws. The succession could arguably have now passed through his sister, Kira, to the Hohenzollern dynasty. However, Vladimir ruled the Bagrations were of royal rank as Head of the House and prior to his marriage to ...

I thought only the Spanish Royal house accepted Maria's claim and was not aware anyone else did. I have always taken GD Michael's view that it is a matter for the Russian people to decide if they want a Tsar and who that Tsar is.

Whats becoming very clear is that for a long time, Russians haven't considered the monarchy eligible for restoration because of the confusion over the heir. Now however, it seems that they have decided Maria is the best girl for the job and she seems to be enjoying her new status. It may be subtle, but notice how she's being invited to visit places in Russia. When she does, she's treated as if ...

That is the first time I have heard the Grand Duchess speak, and my first impression is that I like her very much. She goes staight into my favourite royals list.

There is nothing in the Pauline Law disbarring Cyril from succeeding. It's a matter of historical record that Maria Pavlovna converted to Orthodoxy in 1908 and her children remained in-line to the imperial throne. Cyril's son, Vladimir, succeeded to his father's position as Head of the Imperial House and was born of an equal marriage (Victoria Melita was a Princess of the UK and daughter of Grand...

And I would love to know just who these Romanovs are that are "pure and not diluted by morganatic or divorced marriages", a criteria none of the current descendants meet. They are ALL morganatic under the strictest interpretation of the Pauline Law. Given that point, Maria Vladimirovna arguably takes precedence since the senior line male, Dimitri Iliynsky, is an American and carries no ...

I wonder what has prompted Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna to pester the Russian government with legalities concerning the untimely death of Nicholas II and his family as well as what compensation she expects from the Russian government.

From a practical point of view, few Russians are aware of Maria Vladimirovna or the Romanov Family Association. There is little desire or momentum for a restoration or even any kind of recognition, such as what was done in Romania and Serbia, for ANY member of the family. From the strictest viewpoint of the Pauline Law, both Maria and Nicholas would be disqualified from the succession as dynasts. Although Vladimir ruled the Bagrations were...

Maria Vladimirovna has apparently ordered her lawyers to appeal the decision of the Russian Courts to close the murder case of Nicholas, Alexandra and their children. According to a press release, the Romanov Family (that is, Maria Vladimirovna, her mother and son) does not agree with the verdict on principle and will insist on re-opening the case. The Russian courts pronounced the deaths of members of the Imperial Family were murder and the...

Very unlike the Queen to bow to anyone except heads of state (and then I cannot recall if and when), the Pope or a crowned sovereign such as the king of Greece or Queen Beatrix) . I cannot see her bowing to Prince Nicholas but he of course would bow to her as a crowned sovereign. Just my thoughts

Ok, I'm sorry; I've read in Greg King's biography of Empress Alexandra Feodorovna that Orthodox Church didn't recognise the wedding because of they were cousins, and the same was made by the Czar; only some year later he restored Kirill in all his titles and honours, but only for him and not for Victoria. About Prince Alexander of Yugoslavia, he married two Catholic women; so his descendants can be considered as pretendants...

J Kenrick: >>The statement by Marie Vladimirovna's lawyer German Lukyanov also makes it clear: "As far as the authenticity of the Tsar's remains found in the Urals in 1991 and 2007, the House of Romanov will rely on the position of the Russian Orthodox Church."<< Both sides are in agreement to wait.
