Like many here, I am prepared to compromise on operational speed, limited ISO range, battery life, and clunky menus for the rewards that the Foveon sensor can bring. However, a camera that doesn't work at all is one compromise that's impossible to reconcile! I know that unless Ricoh use the Foveon chip the images will not be the same. But they make high quality equipment (I've seen no reports of frozen cameras from their camp),...

Ricoh had many problems with their cheaper R models. R4 to R8 were known for problems with stuck lenses. But their higher gear (GRD; CX; GX) seems to be without that flaws. Try turning the dial to "Setup" and turn it on - then reset to factory settings. If that does not work, I'd return it and get another...

I am sure it was a frustrating experience. I know Ricoh makes good cameras, but the issue for me, as an SD10 user, is that the Foveon images just look, to me, so much better.
