Thread: Got a 12,427.00 quote for furnace and a/c...WTF!!
Started 1 month, 1 week ago by Rac'nmyT/A
Iam having a intermittent problems with my furnace thats close to 20 years old. Called for service and its still having the same problem. I figured I would start calling around for a new furnace and figured might as well have the old a/c replaced as well, along with a humidifier.
The company who came out to service the unit appeared to be honest and explained the cost of a replacement, which ...
It's pretty amazing that even now there is no shortage of people willing to take your hard earned money away from you...and no shortage willing to pay that amount either...
I always call at least 3 business that are listed with the BBB and that have A+ reviews...then go with the best quote...if I do not have a referral...
I just had a 16 seer, 4 ton, Trane unit installed. Over $9k. I also had the entire house reinsulated up to R39, and had the house Energy Star Certified. Another $4k. T the city of Austin rebates almost $2k, and I get another $1.9k in Fed rebates. If I could get an Energy Star Certified pool pump, I would be a happy camper.
Not sure what Bryant was pricing, but I had a 4 ton 19 SEER trane AC Unit (XL19i), 2 stage furnace (XV95) and a clean air filtration unit installed about a year ago, cost was just over $13k. Your price difference could easily be the quality and type of equipment they were quoting from one vendor to the next.

The high number is actually not gouging, plenty of dealers get that kind of money for their work, and plenty of people are willing to pay it. That company will close 3 out of 10 leads, but will maximize their profits on each job. The sad thing is, when you go with those bigger companies, you have no idea if the installer that will show up is their 20yr ace or the kid just out of trade school who ...
From what I gather the installer is far more important than the brand... Many brands use the same parts. Several brands are owned by the same company but one advertises heavily the other does not. Lenox, Trane and Carrier are the best known but they advertise heavily and their price reflects that (all three own lesser known brands). I agree with 350, find a small company where the owner ...
Viv makes a great point about equipment brands....There are only a handful of major equipment manufacturers. They position their "premier" brand to be just that, highest priced, most advertised, etc. But they also realize that there is a huge market for people that can't or refuse to pay $12k and higher for an install. So they manufacture another brand name, advertise it less, and go after that ...

As for the OP - that's insane especially for a...
