The team that brought google maps to the world have been busy for the last couple of years with an open source in-browser 'app' that will likely once again have a big impact on online communication. teh cool it's a nice amalgamation of various internet communication tools once again google give you a proper usefull bit of kit google raising the bar... in a good way

yeah, bringing everything together in 1 place like that is cool, the context sensitive spelling and live translation are outstanding, but I can't help but wonder how much of it they'll be logging, storing, data-mining, and using to target ads and who knows what else.

the on the fly translation is glorious well from what i have seen... it could really make the diffrence when talking to international contacts

Having nothing better to do I just watched the whole thing. Wow, this is cool stuff, and as the poster above says this really raises the bar. Two thoughts: a) How on earth are they planning to make money with this - they are going to open source it and so anyone can set up a Wave server of their own. This runs counter to the ad based model that is 99% of Google revenue. They are a strange ...

Although i love the concept of waves I'm finding the reality annoyingly sluggish, messy and irritating and haven't really bothered with it much. Pity really.
