My daughter and her best friend are planning to go to school up in San Francisco and my husband and myself were just curious as to what some of the safest areas to live in were. My daughter has made it VERY clear that they do not wish to live in the dorms and my husband and I are willing to pay anywhere from $2,000-2,500 a month for a nice safe place. Well i live in the Sunset and it is a very nice safe neighborhood right by the water. And the houses there are very nice and usually cheap. i pay 2,200 for a 3 bedroom 2 bath. Most of the houses in this neighborhood have in laws downstairs and it is diffucult to find good ones without. But this is definitly the most affordable/safest neighborhood in the city. P.S NORCAL FTW

If there are going to SF STATE, then your safe bet would be Sunset.

It is a good thing you can pay, a one bdrm apt should be less than $2K. The better areas are Pacific Heights, the Marina, Seacliff, St. Francis Woods. These are the best and oldest neighborhoods.
