Thread: Good Eats along 270 Corridor

Tried Peking Palace yesterday, and was very happy; I was just there by myself, so I only had a cumin lamb hot pot off the hunan menu (which is now translated into English and included with the main menu), but it was great (and there was no need to argue about whether I really wanted the authentic version or anything like that). They also gave me a gratis bowl of hot & sour soup while I was waiting for the hot pot, that was good enough...

Glad you liked it. Probably one of the most serious Chinese kitchens around. Did you think the hot pot was different in style from other places?

The French Quarter in Germantown is good (or was a couple of years ago). Steve also has a Hunan place there, but I've not yet been. Also Caspian Sea (or House) for kabobs. If the pho place that was in the shopping center caddy corner-ish to Caspian is there, it used to be good as well. Pho 81. Oh, and there's that crazy sandwich place that I need to try myself. Has a ton of sandwiches on the menu and has been there forever....

The sandwich place is Roy's Place in Gaithersburg. I like it, but a lot of people say it "used to be better".

Volt in Frederick is well worth trying. I had a fabulous lunch there during Restaurant Week. And besides the famed Table 21 (21-course tasting menu), there's also a great deal for lunch. If you eat in Volt's lounge, you can get the "Express lunch" -- 3 dishes for $14. If I were out that way during the week, that's where I'd be eating. http://www.voltrestaurant.com/pdf/exp...

If you are willing to go to Frederick, why not venture a little farther North? Stay on 270 til it ends in Frederick and that will put you onto Route 15 N. Head over to Chubby's BBQ just outside Emmitsburg. It's right on the highway past Mt. St. Mary's College. Great BBQ and roadfood fare.

french quarter in germantown is gone, but the thai restaurant that has taken over and remodeled, sabai sabai simply thai, is great. their green curry is worth the drive. the owners are the former owners of benjarong thai in rockville. cava, in a buried shopping center near shady grove rd & rt 28, is one of my favorites. pho & grill in montgomery village plaza across from lakeforest mall has a minced pork roll as an appetizer...
