If you're forwarding hotmail messages to a GMail account, you won't be able to send mail "from" your hotmail account from Apple Mail.

Hi,
I linked my hotmail account to my gmail account.
Now all mails are coming to my gmail account.
A big advantage is that I can also send mails 'from' my hotmail account in the gmail account, at least online... (gmail.com)
I want to be able to send mails in Mail that have hotmail in the 'from:' field.
I found this on the gmail.com help site:

I use the POP function in gmail to get my hotmail mails, I don't forward them.
Maybe this explains what I'd like to do better.

The only thing is, gmail appears not to accept the hotmail address in Mail, although from the gmail webmail it does.

Solved:
I changed the SMTP server to smtp.gmail.com:mymail@gmail.com
Then it worked fine.

I'm having the exact same problem, but I'm not sure as to how you fixed it. Did you change the SMTP server on the hotmail alias on the Gmail website? Or did you change this...

In Account settings, under the SMTP address, you can click the button for SMTP server ...
