IIRC, it's a 2 year old HP. My parents used it for email, some minor accounting and some pictures. I want to upgrade the ram (currently 1GB IIRC), reinstall XP and use it at home for surfing/email. Questions: So how do I re-install XP since neither of us have a disk? Anything to note or backup? (They have already copied the files they need) What is the best way to transfer my current hard ...

Find an OEM version of XP, Ask Ted Nugent, he might have a copy. Use the key, usually on the sticker on the back of the case to install it. Yeah, just slave the old drive and d&d.

There might be a "recovery" partition already. Check "My Computer" and see. If so, have the computer boot from it. My 5 yr old HP desktop has it.
