Thread: Getting Nervous And About To Have A Mental Breakdown!
Started 4 months, 1 week ago by Marjk
I need to catch my breath for a minute. So I leave for an almost two week vacation on Monday. Tomorrow is my last day at work and I have more to do than physically possible in one day. On Friday I go to see my mother (who's still in the hospital) and to check out the nursing home where she will hopefully get into ASAP. She's not aggressive anymore but she's still pretty resistant to taking ...
Just breath. You are going to have a blast on that trip. Took it a couple of yrs ago. Way too much fun. If something happens your sister can handle it. Remember to have a shot for me looking at the sunset. Cabo has some great places to eat along the beach. Go to a place called the office. Good food. Have fun and relax
I know you are breathing but take a couple more deep breaths. Make a list of what you have to do and do the most important first. Pack first what you must take ie: meds etc. what you forget you can always buy. As far as not being available if needed, you can be contacted on the ship. So you are basically just a phone call away. Your cell phone should work when you are in port. In an ...
OH lordie Marj,,,ease up love chop!! Stop it and stop it now. What gets done gets done,,and what doesn't ,,,doesn't. You are not God,,,nd Pieberry is there,,and the world and life will still go on,,no matter what. You do the best you can,,while you can. You get yourself ready for that vacation,,,and look forward to it too. Your Mom will be just fine,,even if she's place while your'e gone. WE...
Everyone is right, I just need to calm down. My brain is telling me to JUST CALM DOWN! I think once I get there I will calm down. I just need to finish all the stupid school stuff and if I don't finish it, it will be here when I get back. I know my mother is safe and I know my sister is here. That being said, I still feel unbelievably guilty that I am going away just as my mother will ...
ok, think of it this way .. don't make Pieberry think that you don't think she can handle things. You'll do the same for her one of these days and the guilt will be evenly split. Does your cell service include international calling? Set a time to call when you know Pieberry will be there and give your mom a long distance call. Or if not check on board ship for the best rates and locations ...
My cell phone does not have international service but I'll be getting internet service and I'll have my computer with me. I know Pieberry can handle it, it's just the guilt that I feel. I'll get over it. I'm going on Carnival, we have a group of about 25 friends going. I never get to see my friends since I live 3,000 miles away! I just need to concentrate and get everything done. I'll spend...
I know you know Pieberry can handle it, just make sure SHE doesn't think you don't. (Boy was that convoluted). Here's my last piece of wonderful advice - remember that everything happens for a reason. Your trip etc. I do so hope you have a wonderful time, and that the nursing home you visit tomorrow is perfect. Marie
Marjk, this sounds like a wonderful time for some caregiver maintenance. I am so thankful Pieberry is there and can handle things for you. Does anyone know if you can give a temporary DPOA and proxy to someone else? I was in England for three weeks, and I gave my husband DPOA for those three weeks, since I was pretty inaccessible. (This was in 2003, and we didn't have as many options!) If ...
Thanks sissy! I know you can handle everything. I have to stop being a control freak since NOTHING is in my control at this point. And you are correct, who am I kidding about her realizing Thanksgiving is actually a special day and a holiday? Vacation here I come!

Allow your sister to handle things regarding your mother while you are away. You are both on the same page ans support each other when it comes to your mother's care, so just let go of the need to control the situation and trust her to handle things for a couple weeks. It will be OK. Focus on what you need to get done for YOU in order to go on your vacation. Finish your papers and tie up the loose ends at work. Let your sister deal with...
To address your concerns about the cell phone, can't you just temporarily sign up for the international call service for short term? I did this several years ago for my husband that had to go to Norway for family emergency. Or find out if any of the 25 others might have the service on their phone, and give their number to family. Just be calm, there is pretty much a solution to everything!

Whoa! Don't take your computer with you! Are you nuts? It's a vacation!!! Take a vacation. Computers and cell phones and blackberries and all of that are part of the "real world". For maximum relaxation you really ought to be part of "vacation world". Especially on a cruise. I have cruised a few times (I am an inveterate SCUBA diver). I usually pick dive boats where I am guaranteed to be out of touch - off the...
