Thread: Geo Storm/Isuzu Impulse problems

Okay guys, this is a dilemma that my friend has been going through. He has tried to get some help on his forum (isuzone.org) but he says no one has replied to his post so I figured I'd try the folks here for some insight. here is his original reply:

I would say take a step back and start over... has he verified its getting spark? fuel? compression? im thinking that the timing belt may have "jumped" or broke i had this happen on my samurai and had similar problems(ie. started smoking, loss of power, running poor) and what had happened was the timing belt "jumped" a notch../ im not sue what engine his has? 1.3L 1.6l 2.0L etc 1....

being the"sporty modle" it should be a 1.6 SOHC mabe a 2.0?, unlikly a 1.3L there was a 1.8L DOHC but only 96\98~ suvs got it. what oil did he put in it i know some one first hand that put 15W-40 in theres (it was a little 1.0L 2 door) and it truly ran like cow poop, tell he put 5W-30 in it . check time belt. the 100 mile drive may have been long enuf to damege a wire. if a...

It's pretty important to know..which Geo? Storm, prizm, metro, what? Motor is important too... you say the module was changed...did he buy a new one or use one from a junkyard car? Inquiring minds want to know...

it is a 91' geo storm. It is the 1.6 and the most of the replacement parts (EGR in particular) came from his parts car.. same model. Thanks so far. not yet. it'll probably be this weekend before he gets to start wrenching on it. He was out of town last weekend so you know.. I hope he gets it back going. It's about the coolest geo storm you've ever seen. It's practically unrecognizable from stock. I'll try to get a pic from him.

there is a HUGE follwing up here for those cars.. i guy offered to trade me my rodeo for one actually, a 1991 AWD turbo impulse... i'd love to have one, but not THAT much www.isusoul.ca is the local website dedicated to those cars, and despite it being in french, most if not all of them speak english so if he posts up in emglish he'll get an english response... hth
