Thread: Gawd I hate Black Box

Started 4 months, 1 week ago by Shotgunnova
Even when I know where every chest is, made a list, and double-check dungeons, I still come up one short. Probably the most infuriating sidequest in WA3 -- it didn't help that I forgot chests only count as being opened when their contents are taken (thanks Secret Garden!). *goes to happy place*

That's why I never enter a dungeon with 99 of any items. The moment I fill up at the Garden, I zip over to Jolly Roger and sell about 10 - 20 of whatever I need to liquefy.

Yep, Black Box is probably going to be a problem for me given my use of the Garden. I didn't realize that having 99 of an item kept it in the box, cause in pretty much just about every other RPG I've ever played, you lose it. I finally realized what was up the other day in either the Caging Tower or the Dissection Facility. So I'll probably have to go back over the post-Garden dungeons and ...

Yeah, it's now customary for me to come in with 90 items.

Probably the most infuriating sidequest in WA3 Sorry, but Arioch hunting definitely takes the cake

Shotgunnova replied 4 months, 1 week ago
Arioch's annoying (although less so if y'know its appearance issues), but Black Box's quest starts from the first treasure chest to the 320nd -- there's no comparison in my eyes.

Hotel_Security replied 4 months, 1 week ago
And what are these Arioch "appearance issues" that you mention?

Hotel_Security replied 4 months, 1 week ago
^Arioch is definitely the worst. It's mostly just grinding to even get him to appear and then it's basically the same battle every time. I beat this sidequest the first time I played, but in every additional playthrough, I skip this quest....it's just too boring. In terms of the treasure chests, it's done as you play through the game. I figure you should be trying to get every chest anyway to ...

That's just it -- unless you're meticulously keeping track of your treasure chest count, there's bound to be a mistake somewhere (plenty of dungeons contain chests that require future tools). Part of the worst thing is having a bit of arrogance like "psht, I didn't miss any chests!" and ending up second-guessing yourself. I missed the duplicator chest in Ruin of Memory because I didn't want to ...

It's not even close, especially considering the time involved. It would take hours less to simply walk through all the dungeons again (with a Radar no less) to find what you've missed. Arioch's require you to fight who knows how many battles before you actually encounter one, go to another dungeon, and repeat 100x. I think it's the worst sidequest in the game by far ... and also one of the worst...

Theres no debate. Arioch's: Worst side quest by far.

"There are 320 chests in the world, of which 311 have been opened." I knew it! So I finally got back to Nightmare Castle on my second game, and decided to check out my progress on the Black Box now that I had acquired the Exodus Orb. Sure enough, 9 chests short. I tracked down 7 of them, starting with Sand Canal which was the first I did after finishing the secret garden. And as I suspected, every single one I found had...
