( Wonderin' if anybody on these forums ever worked for Gander Mountain Stores? The local store may be looking for seasonal help and I'm giving it some consideration. , )

No. Gotta say I'm not terribly impressed with their backpacking gear selection.

( I'm not either, but for a seasonal gig, it may not be too bad of one. t certainly beats selling ice cream cones in the dead of winter. , )

Does anyone work at Gander Mountain other than cashiers? I've seen more than a dozen people waiting for the one firearm clerk. Several months ago Gander had a shotgun on sale I was going to buy for my daughter, after waiting 30 minutes while the one firearms clerk attended to other people, I left, drove to a nearby Dick's, and paid $20 more but was in and out of the store in less than 15 ...

I don't work for them, but I have purchased a few things there. They have some nice backpacking tents, a decent selection or backpacks and most of the basic necesseties. They're also a whole lot cheaper than REI. They're also close to work, so I usually visit in weekday evenings. I'm sure it's a whole different place on weekends.

Find out if they offer an employee discount...if they do, take the job and load-up on supplies, i.e. boots, socks, mountain house meals. That would be good enough for me, even if the job blows.

I haven't worked there, but I've been in several of there stores. Customer service and attitude of employees seems to be really variable, which suggests to me that the local management can be either good or bad to work for. Are the employees where you are considering working happy? That's usually a good sign that it's a good place to work.
