Greetings everyone, I was thinking of buying the GX200 to take pictures at concerts in small venues (quick discreet pictures in low light environment). I was debating between the GX200 and the Canon S90 because of its good low light capabilities. But the GX200 has a faster shutter speed (1/2000 vs 1/1600). My question is about the relevance of a 1/2000 or a 1/1600 shutter speed for this kind of...
You really need a larger sensor than that in any compact to shoot concerts or gig work. I'm not saying it can't be done, but it's unlikely that the lighting levels will be sufficient. If you are looking for something discreet, fast to use and with very good hi ISO performance. I would personally plump for the new very small Pentax K-x DSLR which has remarkable hi ISO performance and coupled ...
With the exception of the Panasonic LX3, every other camera with zoom closes its aperture to barely acceptable levels for low light shooting. As a non-Ricoh example, I have managed to capture some interesting images in concerts at 1/10sec, f4.8, ISO 400 with my Canon G7: http://www.flickr.com/photos/archiver/2231871931/ http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2138/2231871931_383 1f817d2.jpg It took ...
Over on the Fujifilm forum Kim Letkeman sees the F70EXR as a great concert camera. He specifically bought the camera for that purpose and what he doesn't know about the F70EXR isn't worth knowing. Check out his blog site. Of course, with the F70EXR you are restricted to JPEGs.
If low-light performance is important to you, don't even consider the GX200. High ISO quality is pretty terrible. You'd be better off looking at the S90 or Panasonic LX3...or just about anything else, really.

The camera /can/ produce good pictures in low light, but only when ...
Hi, First: it seems that the GX100 is less noisy than the GX200, thus for your means a GX100 might be better. Second: High shutterspeeds are not used at low light, i hope you know that. Third: 1/2000 is basically the same as 1/1600. Further: if a GX100 is good enough for your goal, depends on the size of the final pictures you want to have, and even more important: the GX100 is a not so good...
