Thread: GOP Sweeps Virginia, Takes New Jersey

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by The Esteemed Gentleman
The GOP has swept all 3 big races in Virginia, and CNN & CBS in New York has just projected that Republicans will win in New Jersey as well. The NY-23rd has only 35% of precincts reporting as of this posting, with the Dems leading 51%-44%. Even if the Dems manage to hang on in New York, this is still a huge upset to the Dems' (especially in New Jersey) and President Obama's agenda. ...

I don't know. I don't think it has anything to do with Obama, I think it has to do with local politics.

Also the most important issue in NJ polls was the economy. Rasmussen is showing that people...

Still, majorities of voters in both states (56 percent in Virginia and 60 percent in New Jersey) said President Obama was not a factor in their vote today. Those who said Mr. Obama was a factor in New Jersey divided as to whether their vote was a vote for the president (19 percent) or against him (19 percent). In Virginia, slightly fewer voters said their vote was for Mr. Obama (17 percent) ...

The only actual "tea party" candidate lost, so I don't see how this is a win for the teabaggers.

These were Governor races. They all had to do with LOCAL issues, Obama had nothing to do with it. It's just that the Democrats sucked so bad even Obama trying to help didn't work.

The fact that some of these elections were either GOP blowouts or close calls for Democrats should make Democrats step back and rethink their strategy a bit. The biggest issue people voted on in the polls was ...

Obama's administration couldn't get out of NJ and quite frankly there was a lot of buzz about Obama's endorsement. It was all over ...

What most of the people here on LL don't seem to be able to grasp about this issue and how it has potentially big significance for the President and Democrats in Congress was neatly encapsulated by an article in Politico today: Election Day losses in Virginia and New Jersey have congressional Democrats focused like never before on jobs — their own. While the White House and party leaders are urging calm, Democratic incumbents...

I'll admit that Democrats need to worry about their future, but I just don't think that Obama's politics had to do with these losses. I think it's citizens of that state being upset with how things are being run by their governors, not how the country is being run by Obama.

In the past, Virginia has been mostly a red state anyway, so no big surprise there.
