Thread: GMC satellite radio / Dodge satellite radio?

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by reddjett
Hey I'm new to satellite radio so any info will be helpful. I just purchased a new GMC vehicle with a factory satellite radio. I live in Corner Brook NL, a very hilly area so I was told to expect to loose signal and so I have almost 50% of the time. My question is this a friend recently purchased a dodge vechicle also with a factory equipped satellite radio and he doesn't loose signal, WHY? ...

The Dodge has Sirius. The GMC has XM. You shouldn't lose signal 50% of the time. Check your menu in the antenna aiming section and see what your signal is. Do you get any signal with terrestrial?

GM has XM Satellite, and Dodge has Sirius. The Sirius satellites are higher in the sky compared to the XM ones and therefore if you have hilly areas or built up ones, you are going to suffer greater signal cutout, especially up in Canada.

NL is going to be tough for XM unless you're in an area with good terrestrial repeater coverage. XM satellites are geostationary (stay in one place in the sky) but positioned in the western sky. Sirius satellites appear to move in a figure-8 pattern spending a lot of time over Canada so their coverage is much more uniform from BC to NL. Unfortunately, I know of no way to get an OE/...

This is probably a stupid question but can i deactivate xm subscription and subscribe to sirius, if not can I change my radio to a sirius one (indash).

Yea, you can change radios at your own expense but you can't get Sirius on an XM radio. Before doing anything drastic, first rule out that it's not a hardware/antenna issue, etc. Since you just bought the vehicle, start with your dealer for a warranty concern.
