I have discovered that my GMC Sierra has a towing package, heavy duty suspension, transmission cooler, shift control button on gearshift lever, but.......it is not 4wd, in fact it's not even 2wd. While pulling the boat out the left tire was spinning on the wet ramp and barely pulled the boat out. My wonder is this; why would GM put all the towing extras on a vehicle and no posi-traction? I ...
Yup, Posi-trac really doesn't have anything to do with your trailer package so unfortunatley the result is exactly what you experienced. 2wd is really 1wd unless you have posi and 4wd is really 3wd unless you have a front diff locker as well.
I have 4wd but have noticed that I can usually pull out without it. Go slow and make sure your tires have good tread. Some ramps are steeper than others too.
The Eaton locker was an option on my '04 GMC 2500HD 4WD but I'm sure it came standard with a limited slip on the 4WD models. I don't think I've ever even seen a 2WD 2500HD. IMHO pretty worthless as a truck if it doesn't even have a limited slip. There are actually very few trucks that are true 4WD. Most of them you can see in the snow spinning one tire up front and one in the back. Hey it works and doesnt cost as much as having lockers front and rear. For most folks, its fine. -------------------- "It aint rocket surgery"

Unfortunately, most 2wd trucks need a Locking Rear Differential, but it is not standard equipment. It just isn't. Towing package has nothing to do with it. However, every 4wd Chevy I have seen gets it. -------------------- Formerly a 1997 Chaparral 2135 Mercruiser 5.7LX EFI Gen + Bravo 3 2.0:1 26" propset
I agree on the fact that not all trucks are treu 4x4, I noticed that with trucks in the snow.....Not all 4 wheels are spinning (never tried this in 4 low). Yeah - you really need to do your research and understand what you are buying.....I would expect that a 2500 HD would have at least posi but than I would also expect a 23 foot boat to be sold with adequate power and I have seen them with ...
What year is this GMC? Check the door code: I believe G80 is the Limited Slip Differential code- It may not be working. Even with an LSD, it's only as good as the traction available, if both rear tires are on something loose it's no better. -------------------- ~Chris 2004 Pontiac GTO Pulse Red 5.7L LS1 6 speed Mine- 2002 Tahoe LS Pewter 4.8L 4x4 Dads- 1997 Stingray 190RS 3.0L / 2010 5 ...
