Thread: Fuel Tank experience

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by kverges
First, my fuel tank modification did not work and rather than further jack with it, I am going to try an aftermarket aluminum fuel tank. Second, I tried to search and could not find any exact answer to this question. Looks like komo tech and elise-shop both make alloy tanks. The komo tech tank has no description other than 54 liter capacity, and fuel surge turning left is my big ...

Thanks for feedback - who makes the central pick-up style tank? What is the "pro alloy" tank? At about 1/2 tank I am getting fuel starvation on slicks - car is probably pulling about 1.5 G and it is a long left- hander; probably as much as 10 seconds of high-G.

As for the Sector 111 setup, at $750 I am probably more interested in a new tank, which seem to run about $1000, but have at least 10 more liters capacity and weigh several pounds less. I think I may endurance race this car next year and the turbocharged engine consumes fuel a lot faster.

If you are running slicks then you really need to run a swirl pot setup with a separate lifter pump. The pro-alloy fuel tank is superb but is really a fast track (on yoko's) not race item (on slicks). If you are endurance racing I'm surprised you've not looked at or are required to run the FIA bag tanks - lotus do 70ltr and 100ltr tanks which should help. Not cheap and fitting is a pain and ...

FWIW, I have run the Sector111 V2 tank down to 1 gallon in my Exige S, Hoosier A6 + concrete, no starve. For me, this is a great solution IF you don't need the larger capacity.

Thought the Sector 111 mod (to the stock tank) worked pretty well: V2 Fuel Tank from Sector111

Oil shows no pressure drop (all I have is Moroso pan) - but remember I am turning left and the pickup is on the far right so I'd expect oil to accumulate there. I am confident a separate "swirl pot" is not necessary. I ran Formula Mazda for years and have never seen a formula car with an external fuel swirl pot. A proper tank or cell with the correct baffling and pickup should work and why...

I have tried the alloy pro-alloy tank with the pump in the standard position, long LH corners it starves at 1/2 tank. Long LH turns at high cornering force that heads uphill starves with 5/8 of a tank.Under the right conditions it can be even worse. That is tested in a prepped car with slicks. The Elise shop one looks the same. There is a special tank with a central pick up and an ...

The tank shape is just bad, too wide and too low. Any solution except than changing the shape will never be perfect. At 1 G, the fuel level will be 45 degrees somewhere... Instead than working on the fuel tank, you can reduce the effect of it with 2 solutions: - Reserve tank as Phil of BEO is selling, the tank needs to be big enough for the fuel consumption during high G turn. The set-up will have 2 pumps. - Use a fuel rail without dead end....
