I removed the catalyst packages causing the trouble. Now it runs fine again. Maybe someone did run into same trouble, so here is what i did: - boot from rescue dvd - yum erase xorg-x11-drv-catalyst (removes also xorg-x11-drv-catalyst-libs) At that point, the boot messages didn't show any [failed] any more, but as Xorg started, my both monitors went into sleep mode. this was due ...

I believe I ran into the same Desktop corruption issue when I updated kdenetwork on my kde liveusb. To revert it I booted into runlevel 3 (or you can press control-alt-f2 to get to a text console, login as root and type init 3. Type the following command (it's all on one line): yum downgrade kdepim kdepim-runtime kdepim-libs kdepim-runtime-libs kdenetwork kdenetwork-libs kdepimlibs-akonadi ...

[root@localhost Cache]# cd $HOME/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/Cache bash: cd: /root/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/Cache: No such file or directory [root@localhost Cache]# I should have said "as the user" here, not root. The cache doesn't exist until firefox is run, and since this is root, the cache likely does not exist. I'm not sure about the xvid bad plugins, but most DVD/video ...

An update to F-Spot has added dependencies that pull in gnome-screensaver and removes xscreensaver. Perhaps I just haven't figured out how to use gnome-screensaver, but it is a very limited and inflexible screensaver system that I really dislike! I use GL-Matrix as my screensaver and have yet to figure out how to easily use it from gnome-screensaver. With xscreensaver, it's just there and ...

Hey there, I have a little trouble understanding the way pulseaudio streams are handled. If I adjust the volume in, say, rhythmbox the main output volume is changed too. So what's the point of having separate control over the individual streams if it just gets synched to the main volume level? (I think) a more logic approach would be: Streams from several applications (each with their ...

My computer often runs very slow. When I open a system monitor I find that there are multiple instances of python running and between them they are consuming nearly all the cpu time. If I kill all the pythons performance returns to normal but even one instance will consume about 90% of the available time. These instances of python are clearly being left by the user logins, every time I log...

I am using FC11 kde 4 version 64 bit. I want to know how to use the strigi indexing. Installing the strigi package didn't help, i found this blog http://ossz.blogspot.com/2009/05/nep...ng-mystry.h tml but it only has link to 32 bit package. Is there a method to use strigi for indexing or i should use some other indexer.

flac is lossless - a required feature for storing audio. Ogg gets excellent subjective fidelity for the bandwidth - needed for broadcast. Isn't mp4 more of a 'container' method for various encodings ? I'm fairly unaware of the advantages of the rest.

If they'd already installed flash, it seems that chrome will see and use it.

voice to text?

also there are some apps in the repos, but the speech recognition ones (as opposed to the rather good text-to-speech apps) are mostly just toys, do 'yum search speech' and 'yum search voice'. Code: yum install pocketsphinx pocketsphinx_tidigits wait for it to say "READY", then speak out some single digit sequences. It's not bad, but not very practical, I never played much with the other stuff (type...

lexje, Do you have the root password to install those packages? If not, you have to ask your "webhoster" to install it for you.

Wine Question

a new wine version is coming like every 2 weeks, theres no point for the packager to get every single wine version into the repos. the changes from .32 to .34 are minor but if you cant wait for a newer version to appear in the fedora repo go ahead and build from source, dont forget to apply pulseaudio patches from http://art.ified.ca/?page_id=40 or you will not have much fun with an own wine build in fedora. build dependencies:...

I haven't tried beta4, but I recall beta2 being prone to crashes. Otherwise, not a bad experience, though you'll likely run into compatibility issues with extensions.

Hi No. Spins have the exact same packages as in the repositories. They are just convenient for those who prefer a particular set of software.
