This is pretty f'ing terrible. 11 victims, as well as the shooter are dead and over 30 injured. Supposedly an Army Major and psychiatrist went on a
shooting rampage on base, killing a bunch of fellow soldiers. Ugh.

Fort Hood is where we did our processing prior to this deployment. I'm still waiting on word about a couple of people who we know that work in the SRP
there. Not happy to hear that this guy might have been under investigation for the past six months.
Just found out that a good friend from high school had her new husband (been married 3 months) shot multiple times during this assault. A touch close to home
for my liking.
Lot of speculation about what they will and/or should do for the families
of the deceased. If those soldiers had died in a combat theatre, they would
be promoted (posthumously) to the next higher rank and any benefits due to
the families would be based upon that higher rank. Since most of those
soldiers killed at Ft. Hood were preparing to mobolize, the general
concensus here is that the Army ...
Agreed.
It's interesting that the psychiatrist was the shooter (usually its the other way around) and the shooter was not killed- he is still alive. Apparently he
has been on the watch track for some time because of his internet use and a poor review from Walter Reed hospital. There was a claim that he was being
harassed by soldiers for being Muslim but I have doubts about that given his ...
I'm wondering what thought process was behind the decision to put a practicing Muslim into a position of councilling those who suffer PTSD knowing full
well that the patients might have some disturbingly negative things to say about anything/everything relating to Islam or Muslims in general. Whomever did that
needs to be relieved.
Isn't it part of beign a professional counselor to detach your feelings from the patient's views? I'm sure he's not the only one in his
profession that has had to listen to disturbing things on a daily basis.
This seems to be a strange development ... Major Nidal Hasan seemed worried about the results of an HIV blood test taken a week before the Fort Hood shooting rampage, according to federal investigators piecing together background details on Hasan's life. Taken a week before the shooting? Has Combivir in his apartment? How long does it take to get HIV tests back? The fact that this test happened at all, followed by its proximity to the...
That's correct Vizco. Hell, they'll even make you a full Colonel, right off the bat, if your medical credencials are top notch and you're in the right specialty (like a brain surgeon).

Whoops I was off on that. I was thinking captain, but yes Major is pretty much as far as most people get I haven't heard everythign regarding his record. I'm looking to see where it mentions evals. Found this though: Military records show Hasan received his appointment to the Army as a first lieutenant in June 1997 after graduating from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, with a degree in biochemistry. Six years later, he...
13 counts of murder. In Texas. I smell an execution scheduled for like next week . . . .speedy trial notwithstanding. Defense will pull the mental health card but I don't think it will hold up. He was not insane- merely just fed up.
Yes, but medical services officers are treated differently, by all accounts. They do not command troops; their "officer-ness" is by courtesy, in effect.
HIV testing was an annual test while I was in the Navy if I remember correctly. Along with PPD. They would usually get you into the clinic on the guise of needing one vaccine or shot until they flipped through your medical record and decided you needed others.
