I didn't go back to full-fledged lacto-ovo, but I did stop worrying about trace ingredients, especially when I'm out. Mostly for blood sugar issues. I try to bring food along but I'm not always that organized and my sugar can go from fine to I'm going to pass out in no time. I'm not diabetic or anything. The same thing happens to my sister, who is omni. Must be another wonderful family ...

Mine was blood sugar issues as well. But, I was only vegan for a few months so I never really considered myself a true vegan anyway. I can relate to wolfie's post. Those trace ingredients suck! I try to avoid eggs at all cost but that dairy is always there...somewhere. I only do soy or rice milk but even if I tried to cut it all out, I still wouldn't make a good vegan and I am happy being L/O.

Yeah, I echo wolfie and Tori's post. I'd probably be considered a strict vegetarian more than a vegan because I don't bother with the trace ingredients. I look for and avoid all obvious uses of egg or milk or their by-products but I don't get into calling up companies and asking if those diglycerides listed in the ingredients are from a animal or vegetable source. I also make a conscious effort ...

I was vegan for about five years, and avoided even trace ingredients. Then last year, when my mother had her stroke, I stayed with her in the hospital for five weeks (24/7). The only vegan food I could get at the cafeteria was lettuce and oil and vinegar. I was getting really run down, and I knew I would be nursing my mother when she was released from the hospital, so I started eating ...

Just today I had an experience with family members. I spent the day in a rest home visiting my husbands grandma. I ate before I came so I wasn't hungry but his cousin brought a big bowl of fruit and we was passing it around in a circle. I said...no thanks...not hungry(I was not) but they insisted that it's fruit so I should eat it...since they know I am vegetarian and all. (drives me nuts, like ...

I went from vegan to L/O and back to vegan again. I found myself living a lifestyle that became ridiculously restrictive and isolated and I sunk into a depression fueled by an enormous amount of guilt over animal slaughter and other people's indifference. I felt like something had to give at the time cos I was heading down a path of doing something stupid, so I gave up veganism until I got my ...

Totally unrelated, but I'm going as Jem for Hallowe'en this year and my costume totally rocks. Jem IS truly outrageous!

Well after going vegan a few months back I just discovered that my gluten free bread is now made with eggs! They've had a recipe change apparently. So the choices in bread I have are now a really high in salt, not very tasty GF loaf, an extremley high salt, yeast free vegan bread that is inedible and a gluten free bread with egg AND milk that is low salt AND multigrain AND not too bad taste wise....
