Thread: For the people that 'hate' this movie

Started 2 months, 1 week ago by Rupert__Pupkin
The people that criticize this movie tend to make the same points repeatedly: (1) This movie portrays a lot of stupid stereotypes and (2) there are way too many coincidences for it to be believeble. First off, this movie doesn't pretend that it disovered racial stereotypes, but rather, it addresses already existing stereotypes. Racial stereotypes are of course rampant, so what's wrong with ...

Terrific, well thought out logical post. Don't push it. Don't push it or I'll give you a war you won't believe. Let it go.

Thank you. When I saw a response to my post, I assumed it was somebody about to tell me how wrong I was.

This film teaches nothing about racism. Also the fact that everything is pretty much resolved in the end. There has been racism going on for as far back as history goes, are you telling me that it is reasonable to think that it can be resolved in the 24 hour time period spans. Cause that is what happens, The racist cop says to the naive cop, "You think you know who you are, but you dont". ...

Very nice post, Rupert! You may add that a big part of the backlash (especially here) had nothing to do with questions about the quality of this movie. Well done!!!

moviefanatic, You complain that Crash didn't teach you anything. Was it supposed to? Do you tend to look to movies for your education? The movie provided a snapshot of different lives. I wasn't aware of a higher purpose to educate. You also commented that everything was resolved in the end. What was resolved? Matt Dillon's father was still sick; Sandra Bullock was alone; Don Cheadle's ...

http://kinematoscope.blogspot.com/2009/08/imdb-217 -crash.html#0 This review says everything on why crash isn't a great movie. "In Gone with the Wind, Vivian Leigh's character is the rich spoiled white girl from the South. In the Godfather, Al Pacino's character is the rich Italian guy that grew up in the mafia. In Back to the Future, Michael J. Fox's character is the middle-class ...

So you hate Crash because it presses the envelope in terms of plausibility. In Back to the Future, it seems very unlikely that a high school kid would be close friends with a wild-eyed scientist. And it's really unlikely that Indiana Jones could have outrun a whole tribe of natives while dodging 100 arrows flying at his head in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Just about every movie we love has some ...

I would agree with you that the plausibility seems subjective. But that is the way I feel about it. The good things about crash for me is that all the actors did a very good job. The problems I have with the movie is with the writing. If the movie was longer I probably would have liked it, I tend to like movies where I get to know the characters better. Everyone gets everything he ...

People that don't get this movie probably look for hidden themes and underlying messages in other movies, which simply aren't there. I actually think this is a product of poor education. Teachers do it all the time in class where they have you watch a movie or read a book and come up with all of these ideas of underlying meanings and themes and so forth, which is sometimes pretty stupid. Can't ...

aurileo, There's nothing worse than psuedo-intellectuals like yourself who get on these boards and try to put people down by pretending that they've been bestowed with special insight and wisdom. Most likely you're a film school dropout that wouldn't know fine cinema if it bit you on the ass. Hey, shouldn't you be watching "2001: A Space Oddysey" for the 100th time and blogging about the genius of...

No Rupert, not even a 'pseudo-intellectual' let alone film buff. He is known to be fueling the 'Crashboard' with his negative comments every time a decent/serious discussion comes up. In fact, you may know him under his former moniker 'galirora'. With this id he came here every fortnight to tell how dumb people are if they thought this was a good movie. It all has to do with his favorite losing the AA, thus one of...

I didn't care much for Crash for many reasons, but not because I'm arrogantly opposed to movies that strive to address a social message as this one does. Going through your laundry list of explanations of why people HATE this movie is really just a silly exercise on your part to devalue people who disagree with you. Matt Dillon's portrayal was sufficient, but I didn't find compelling that we saw both sides of this life....
