Thread: Flickr: Discussing indirect shooting question - about Paris in Leica M8

Started 5 months ago by Susan NYC
I realized - I bet many of you have some wonderful tips about what not to miss (esp for shooting, but also for eating) in Paris - I'd be grateful if you'd share them - by email or here. I'm here until July 19th, so I have plenty of time to explore. Thanks, Susan_nyc

Walk, Susan...one of the best cities to explore on foot and photograph. ...and don't crop!!!

yes..I'll continue to walk if the sun continues to shine. It's been rainy and cold and grey and miserable until today - too rainy to bring my camera out from under my waterproof jacket most of the time. I can't guarantee I won't crop, but now there's a loud voice that goes off in my head every time I start to crop, and it insists I avoid the temptation. Did your M8 arrive?...

Hi Susan, I was lucky enough to have a native walk me around. When near Notre Dame, there is a restaurant I can't say enough about if you want to eat like a native: La Polidour (spelling?). Cheap and delicious. Two people, two plat-du-jour (plate of the day) and a carafe of wine followed up with coffee and a shared dessert was ~20 Euro each. We ended up having lunch AND dinner ...

If you don't speak French instead of just asking for what you want to know start by saying "Could you help me?" This usually gets you immediate interest from passers by, then ask your real question. They will really try to help you.

Susan, For my first visit to Paris, I read and took "A Moveable Feast". I retraced several of the walks through Paris Hemmingway describes in the book. Keith

Alan42 - nice idea asking for help before asking for help - thanks. BrettF - I'll try Polidor. In the old days, when I was young, I stayed at a very cheap place on rue monsieur ...
