Thread: Flickr: Discussing Preserving Uncut Film in Holga

Started 1 year, 2 months ago by mr_aqqie
Hey everyone, I've noticed a number of people recommend to ask for photolabs not to cut processed films. So I did, since i'm using 135 adapter on a holga and not sure how much to advance the wheel (just in case there's serious overlaps). But i notice how sensitive films are to sratches. So my question is, how do u protect your uncut film? The last time i asked my lab ...

I'd carefully roll it up, and use a small portion of tape to secure it..and be careful of the emulsion side.. I do not care for the 'store labs' to cut because they go on something of a murder spree when cutting negs; I had an experience once when I caught a tech cutting my stuff down to strips of 3..I was psed..He kept trying to say "the machine did it automatically" Of course it ...

so the reason not to cut it is because some labs just don't handle them well? thanks for the tips walterb220. i think i'll just keep it rolled in my canister. that way i wouldn't squash it by accident. i hope it doesn't matter which way i roll it.

If you shoot 35mm film in a Holga, most minilabs will not be able to cut it properly. The images are wider than standard and frame spacing is unlikely to be very even. Good labs will put uncut film in a protective sleeve before rolling it up. Personally I wouldn't accept it any other way. And scanning film that's stored rolled up will be a pain, since it simply won't lie flat...

My lab puts the roll in a plastic sleeve before neatly rolling it up and putting it in a little cardboard box.

I store them cut in archival negative pages and then in 3-ring film storage binder boxes. Here are links to pages from Light Impressions (U.S. archival supplies company): negative pages binder boxes Helps keep everything organized and easier to find. Oh, and I use cotton gloves when handling the negs. rt
