Thread: Flickr: Discussing Off Topic - Photo Thief And Phishing in Flower Close-Ups

Started 8 months, 2 weeks ago by Chrisser
You may want to see if you are the original photographer of any flower photos in the photostream below. If you are, click on the link below of the thief, then scroll down and click on Report Abuse before selecting the option to say this person has your photos in his account. When reporting the theft, do not block the member below until after the report is sent. The member below, ...

waxwing27 click on the arrow next to "you" and select "your account" then "privacy & permissions" Chrisser Thanks for the tip. That person got a lot of contacts and photos on one day. Thankfully none of them are mine.

Thanks for the info!! How do I set to my contacts only so that they cannot be downloaded?

Thanks to Christina and others like her I found out that this person had stolen one of my photos - - my most faved photo on my photostream. I have already sent in a report, and I am encouraging everyone who finds a stolen photo on this person's photostream to to do the same. Thanks Christina for all your help.

Exactly right, stargazer95050. Also, a lot of members on Flickr are using copyright watermarks on their uploaded photos, and if the watermark is very small, a thief can actually crop that watermark out and claim those photos to be theirs. Also, for those not in the listing of those allowed to download your photos (mine is set to my contacts, but overridden as I post in groups...

Theft is theft -- seems this one was satisfied with the really small (240 x 186) images.

Some of the photos I've been looking at in the photo thief's photostream say David Poh '05, and yes, David Poh has a Flickr photostream www.flickr.com/photos/davidpoh/

Chrisser replied 8 months, 2 weeks ago
My download permissions are set to my contacts only, but because I post in groups, admins of groups are able to download my photos - and as long as they ask me first - be able to use my photos in other projects.

Chrisser replied 8 months, 2 weeks ago
For the photos I recognized originally belonging to David Poh, he has been notified via FlickrMail about the theft. If you recognize other stolen photos in the thief's photostream, you are welcome to go to that photostream and post to tell the thief to remove the stolen content unless he is blocking you.

This was a lazy thief -- you even see the names are the typical flickr file names -- Seems he just uploaded his/her browser cache or something equally trivial PS : uploading to a group does not override the download / size settings (anymore). Just tried and on one of your photos I cannot see the all-sizes button. So the max size is ~500x500. I think early on, any group member ...

The same thief has downloaded and uploaded photos from this Flickr member's photostream as well! www.flickr.com/photos/nikon66/ Also, the more theft reports posted with Report Abuse, the higher the account termination risk increases for the thief.

These are other photo thieves to watch out for. www.flickr.com/photos/42608264@N05/ www.flickr.com/photos/cdr_quaalude/ The member under the first photostream link I posted has been banned from another flower group I am the only moderator for. The latter photostream contains a set with stolen photos of the members of the classic rock band Led Zeppelin. Both thieves are blocked.

I have only started uploading photos to Flickr in the last couple of weeks and it never even ocurred to me before reading this that someone would steal photos and post them as their own work. Its so sad, pointless and depressing but thank you for the warning (although with the quality of some of my photos I may be safe from tempting people into photo crime).

Wow...isn't there a way for flickr to stop this? Anyone know of a site where they can protect you?
