Started 1 month, 3 weeks ago by scion46
Some friends of mine asked me to do some photos of them for christmas cards, just finished up the editing and such tonight. It all went well enough, other than waiting for the rain to stop. I can't post any of the photos yet, but I will once my friends are happy. Had a heck of a time with exposures, with the heavily overcast skies and very pale subjects. Once I finished up I ...

Totally. Shooting wide open and wondering why my shots were soft even when I had steady hands.

I still make newb mistakes, although these days they have to do more with screwing up my film development than in-camera settings. : )

#1 congrats! #2 hehehe those sorts of things happen - heck I've been drafting at an architecture firm for five six years now and every time we issue a set of drawings there will ALWAYS be some boneheaded noob mistake somewhere in the set (and usually at a really obvious location). #3 I'm guessing you won't make that mistake again! =)

me too...sometimes I forget to change the ISO level and keep wondering why my photos I take in the daylight have lots of noise.

How about shooting all day in the summer sunshine at ISO 1600 leftover from the night before...still kickin' my butt for that!

Major ISO error, here!! Was shooting night shots one evening. Next day took some great shots of the sun and clouds from an airplane window...with the ISO from the evening before!! Arrrrgh!! But - thanks to a bit of tweaking in NX2 - they ended up being ok. whew!

Re not noticing (some) settings - would this be one plus of the top LCD on the old D50 and the D80/90 and above?

Iso errors are the most common, do them myself at times....

yes...if I remember correctly, one reason I almost went with the canon was cause I it had a iso indicator in the view finder. And there are times that I really do miss the histogram on the evf on the canon powersho s5is that I borrowed from my friend on extended loan (though I really do NOT miss the evf).

ISO for me too. Even now when shooting with D30 and top LCD screen, I still make the mistake. I wish there was some revert to a set ISO function.

Once I finished up I discovered why. For some reason I had my exposure compensation...
