Thread: Flickr: Discussing Joachim Schmid and Martin Parr book published... in Hardcore Street Photography (HCSP)

Started 3 months, 2 weeks ago by Skye Nott
And just to compare & contrast with Mr. Schmid... "All the contributors sourced from this [Flickr] group will receive their books in December. Tom from my office is collecting the addresses." That's a classy touch by Mr. Parr

I don't know if that's classy as much as it is just plain decent.

Ha. Yeah, it's the soft bigotry of low expectations.

I'm just annoyed that two of my Southend colleagues have photos featured in the book, but I have none. I am full of fail.

I gotta say, I wasn't sure if Poe's Law had stricken. I think it did.

On the other hand, is its value due to the content within, mostly; or, rather, due to the imprimatur of mr. Parr?

amazing how both schmid and the flickr contributors take more interesting photographs than martin parr.

I had a pic that they wanted, and were going to include, so I sent it via email. Then a few weeks later got an email saying ' as you never sent a picture, I'm sorry but we have had to go ahead without it." or words to that effect. To say I was annoyed and gutted is an understatement. As i had fucking well sent it. They never got it though, so I guess it's just one of those things. ...

KingJonTheThird oh that is a shame, yes it's a pity they didn't contact you to follow it up. I have got a pic in the book too but I don't think mine is a sad impersonation!!! In fact, I remember that I only added it to the group because the first comment said "like Martin Parr, except good" :-)

The signed copies are going to be sent out this month so I will be waiting for the postman every morning :-) Yes it's tone-mapped from a single raw file . . . I remember at the time thinking that the garish treatment suited the subject matter, for me anyway. And thanks to James Dodd for the very kind invitation to add it to his HDRSP group but I've been scoffed at enough ...

from a single exposure (basically as close as you can get for street photography).

Video reveals the book to be quite flimsy, but I think that's in keeping with the images: www.flickr.com/photos/louisahennessy/4196503437/

Sounds like a good money spinner Arty, if I put a 25% mark-up on all the volumes I put out I might be able to scrape enough money for that M9 I've been hankering on about. ;-)
