Thread: Flickr: Discussing Flashing Err message.... in Nikon D3 D3s D3x

Started 1 year, 9 months ago by scoobs1969
Crap. I've had my D3's all of two days, and yesterday on shot # 326, I started getting a flashing Err message. According to the UM, I'm supposed to take the camera to an Authorized Nikon Service dealer. Ouch. Hopefully the second one won't have issues. Likely not. c

Andy, thanks for the suggestions. This happened while I was using my 50/1.4D. I've tried different lenses, including the new 14-24/2.8, my 85/1.4, 105/2DC. The contacts look very clean on all the lenses and on the camera. I tried using a different battery and a few different CF cards - including reformatting them several times. I also reset the menus to default. Lenses, batteries ...

Cool. The store is taking it back, though they want to look it over - which is what I'd want to do. They also have another D3 at their second location, and they're going to hold it for me. Sweetness.

Did you put an "older" lens on it -- one with a manual aperture ring ? Lock the aperture ring in it smallest position and try again. Before you send it in, try cleaning the contacts on the lens mount, plus the battery in & out a couple of times and do the same with the CF. Especially the contacts to the lens sometimes seem to some oil or other protective film on it that wipes off ...

DUDE make sure its not a corrupt card. Happened with me.

Ouch, that sounds like bad luck. Keep us posted on how it evolves? If it's an older lens and the aperture ring is unlocked and not at the smallest aperture you get an FEE error message.

That film or whatever it is on the contacs is transparent -- I've had the issue of intermittent AF on my brand new D3 + 24-70mm till I had those contacts cleaned. Given the combinations you have tested it sounds less likely. Good luck

Ouch, that no fun. I have had my D3 for a week and only had one problem with dust on the CMOS. No big deal, easy to clean. I hope that this is an isolated incident for you and your back up works good. Keep us posted on what happens. e

Yes, clean the contacts of all your lenses and both D3s' mounts! It's more than likely transferred nastiness/grease/smug from lenses and bodies. A lot of reports of this with the D300 and D3. Like STD's. Ha. I didn't just use that analogy. Really.

well, at any rate, should clean all your contacts at body mount and lens mount of the new D3 and old and all your lenses. Before you mount anything on the new body.

I am having the same problem AND also a MF lens does not work(105mm f/1.8) correctly... aperture is not correctly recognized...

Manual focus lenses (other than AI-P) don't have electronic contacts...

Antonio, I'm not 100% sure, but I think you have to lock the older lenses into the smallest aperture (like f22) and use the dial on the camera.
