Just wondering what kind of Optics are popular with the group, I like nightstalker,or springfield arms, but can afford Bushnell. I like shooting open sights eyes are not as good as they use to be.

My wife calls our kitchen a shrine to the Redneck, Mason jars, cast iron, BBQ tools, sausage and bacon in the fridge, homemade jams and jellies, home canned pickles etc, etc.
All my neighbors are always over here on the weekends, most of these city folk are just learning what real food is LOL.

From time to time I get free scopes, when one of the rich ones at the range upgrades, because they read in a magazine that the next scope out there is a better fashion statement, I use to just give them to the local kids, if I get some that are still in good condition I will pass them on to you guy's.
My 30/30 Winchester has scope rings that allow me to use the open sights, as well as the scope,so I get the best of both worlds! I can sight in more quickly with an open sight for short range shots, but for the long shots, I like the accuracy of the scope.
I'd love one of those ubercool Zeiss units, but for far, far away precision shooting, I'm just not that good.
Like buying a formula one race car doesn't make one an Andretti.
About the only scope hunting I do is coyote hunting...those are from 100-500 yard shots( western Minn.). I can get out consistantly 400 yards so far with my nagant 91/30 if I use my own loads. Still working on how far out I can get with that old rifle, doing it in 100 yard increments and striving for consistancy. Not too bad for and old NC Star picked up at a pawn shop for $10.00

I just got a Millett DMS1 (1-4x30) for farther away stuff. Close in, I like the Eotech or irons. The Eotech holographic dot is a bit fuzzy in comparison to a scope, but it has nice, fast target acquisition close in.
Under 100 yard shots in the Adirondacks , a reciever sight for as long as my eyes can hold out for ; ) A scope just don't feel right on a levergun to me !!! I'll begrudgingly change when I have to , but , not before. Phil
I like red dots over scopes. My favorite is the OKO red dot. It has a crisp, bright dot. Only drawback is that it is plastic. I have an older EOTech, which is "ok". The dot is fuzzy, even when I focus on the target, not the dot. I would like to give AimPoint a shot, but have a hard time spending that much on a red dot. On my Storm I have a Burris Speed Dot that is also bright and clear, but I don't really care for the...
