Thread: First day of IV Steroids, question

Started 2 months, 4 weeks ago by cazlee
I went in for my first morning of IV steroids. Went off without a hitch. However, closer to lunch time, I noticed that when I reached out to grab a peice of paper off my desk, I got pins & needles shooting up my opposite arm from the IV. This has happened a few times now. My left leg feels funny, it's hard to describe the exact sensation. Kind of heavy I guess? This doesn't seem at ...

can i ask why the IVSM? i mean, i assume you were/are having a flare, but what were your sx? i am done with the IV part on the second day of the taper, and i have had things similar to what you are talking about. this is making no sense because my mind is apparently turned off. cog fog. yay! my apologies. anyway, i would guess that these things are just part of your flare?? let me know...

Hi Stacey! Thanks for your reply, and I'm so sorry! I guess I COULD have included the sx! I went blind in my right eye, started off as a suspect migraine aura, never got the migraine, had my eyes checked Sunday 9/6 because fog was getting worse, was blind to no sense of motion/light by Monday, Eye Institute and Neuro-Ophthalmologist appts later, diagnosed optical neuritis, in MS limbo land. ...

I was going to ETA but apparently it took too long to come to mind -- I had an MRI of my neck w/o contrast looking for disc/bone problems because of the accident March of this year, and it captured my brain, optic nerves and portions of my spine. Would the MRI tech feasibly have been able to see any lesions at that time w/o contrast? Would he have been obligated to inform the orthopedist I ...

this is how MS started for me. with ON in the right eye. no problems that i was aware of and in fine health, then poof, limbo land. my first dose of IVSM was in the hospital as i lost all vision in rt eye on a sunday and went to ER. due to the amount of extensive testing, i don't really recall the symptoms of the IVSM other than it screwed up my sugar which led to a whole bunch of fun ...

I didn't sleep worth a lick last night and was boiling but no fever. I was in quite an emotional state too. I'm sure the rollercoaster of emotions was directly related to the 'roids. The good news is, I went out for a smoke (I know, I really, really need to quit... Not good for anything I have going on right now) this morning, closed my good eye, spun around, and I'm getting a trickle of ...

I forgot to mention they did all kinds of autoimmune panels last week. ESR, ANA, RPR, anticardiolipin, IgG & IgM. I kept a copy of the blood order to refer back to lol, there is no way I'd be able to remember all of that any other way. No word on blood work results yet but I don't expect that til tomorrow at the earliest, giving it a week turn-around time. Blood was drawn Wednesday of last week....

I don't know if it's dumb luck or if the steroids show results this quickly usually, but on a scale of 1-totally blind / 100-normal vision, it's at about a 7 today. I'm so happy. I'm getting a sense of contrast/light and movement back. A large-ish dark object or at least a significantly different color than the background, against a big light background stands a chance of getting noticed ...
